This is called "The Great British Debate". Which is quite fitting because this is the future trajectory of the UK. Foreign nationals and descendents of immigrants aka non British ancestral populations, telling everyone what it means to be British. Precisely none of these people have descended from ancestral populations within Britain or north western Europe. On a DNA basis, none of them are British or English. Legally, two of them are British citizens. Amandeep Singh Bhogal was not born in the UK and obviously comes from Punjab, India. He came to the UK when he was 8 y/o. He is legally a British citizen. Stella Tsantekidou is obviously Greek. She was born in Thessaloniki and has lived in thr UK for 13.5 years. She is not legally a British citizen, therefore she is a foreign national. Why she took offence to this fact in the debate, I have no clue. Nana Akua is a daughter of Ghanian immigrants but she was born in Newcastle. She is legally a British citizen. It is correct Miss Tsantekidou should not get any sickness or out of work benefits if she is not a British citizen. She says "I am not a British citizen because applying for the British citizenship costs £2,000. I did not have £2,000 lying around". Which is terrible. If one can't save £2k over the course of 13.5 years, especially if she is increasingly in more high profile, better paid positions, it makes me question her economic value to Britain. But yeah. The country is doomed if no one can turn off the welfare tap asap. It attracts low human captial from 3rd world countries as well as perpetuating social dysfunction of the native underclass.

I mean this with no hate. I believe anyone of any race can adopt a British identity. The empire exported the British identity. I don't believe a black person can ever be English. English and British are different. English people are white Europeans of Anglo-Saxon or Celtic origin. If two white English people had a baby in Ghana, that child wouldn't be Ghanaian.

I find it interesting reading some of the comments that some people think you can only be white and British 🙄
