An interesting proposal. I agree in principle but differ in execution. Renaming can be justified (e.g. Salisbury → Harare = reclaiming sovereignty).But constant erasure of historical references risks losing historical consciousness.Sovereignty should be the space for new ideas-rather raise the bar & create new things taking inspiration from the old. A society is not created anew each generation otherwise it will fail. Rather it inherits institutions, names…and histories, no matter how uncomfortable they may be. Rather learn, adapt & propose new institutions that reflect the days zeitgeist… white washing everything leaves us open to be open sepulchres, twice dead…

For those wondering why I am opposed to maintaining the name 'Logan Cup' for our four-day competition. It is named after a Scottish man called James Douglas Logan. He was a colonialist, a rival to Cecil John Rhodes.

What will it take for Cricket Zimbabwe’s domestic tournaments to attract BIG sponsorships like what soccer is doing right now? Soccer is making all the right noises with ambitious talks of league winners getting $3M+ deals to retain talent and grow the game. Meanwhile, cricket is over reliant on the cricketing board for funding with only the T10 tournament being something to smile about alone. If you dont play for the Chevrons you will never earn well enough and this can make the game not attractive at grassroots level. What do we need to do to gain sponsorship and grow the game locally and make prize pools attractive. Not everyone can make it to the national team but club level should be enough to pay the bills and make it a lucrative career.

For someone like Bennett, you can at least argue exposure, being around top players in the Pakistan Super League, learning environments, dressing-room standards—that still adds value early in his career. But for Burl? That argument fades. He’s not a prospect—he’s a player whose been in the circuit long enough and needs game time, not observation. Sitting him out doesn’t develop him, it just wastes a resource. And it raises a bigger question: Are Zimbabwe players still not trusted enough in these leagues? Because the issue doesn’t look like talent—it looks like hesitation. They’re good enough to be signed, but not trusted enough to be played.
