i got back into digging for music over the break, which i rarely have had time to do over the last year...i'm talking about going deep into the interwebs. being able to hear all these artists and their music from the instruments used to their history has been quite relaxing

PSA to fellow Hindu SAsians in the UK: racists will not ask your religion before kicking in your head. Their children will not ask your kids’ religion before racially bullying them in playground. Your wealth won’t keep you safe. Radical solidarity is all that will keep you safe.

In the conversation abt integration one obvious fact seems to get routinely overlooked, and that is: No one wants to integrate with people who want to kick your head in, call you a cockroach, see any display of your heritage as an affront, and will never ever let you be British

I don't tweet much about Palestine in my own words and mostly retweet because what is there left to say. I have nothing that Palestinians have not already said 100 times over.

A lot of people are asking, “what’s the OccupyJulorbiDemo about?” Let’s break it down for you. Julorbi is a deliberate misspelling of Jubilee House, Ghana’s seat of government. Julorbi is a Ga word which means child of a thief. This hashtag was coined by Democracy Hub, an Accra-based civil society group to help seek reforms in the country. The reasons for the protest includes: 1. The economic mismanagement by the incumbent government 2. Corruption scandals which are not addressed but swept under the carpet 3. Ineffective health-care system in Ghana 4. Countless human rights abuse that have occurred under the current government and the previous ones 5. Abuse of power and authority by those Ghanaians have selected to lead them as a people. The protest was supposed to come off on 21st September, 2023, which is symbolic because it marks the birthday of Kwame Nkrumah, who fought for Ghana’s independence. However, what was supposed to be a peaceful protest was disrupted as police men came in their numbers and arrested all those who happened to be at the convergence point and even arrested innocent bystanders whose only crimes were that they happened to be in a black or red outfit. There were reports of people being beaten up and phones being seized so that there won’t be evidence of occurrences. Journalists and lawyers were not left out of this maltreatment by the police whose primary mandate is to serve and protect with integrity. The protest continues today with full force as the spirits of Ghanaians refuses to be let down by the activities of yesterday. The fight for a better Ghana is a collective effort that requires unity, determination and the active participation of every citizen.

Today in 1920, Nigerian novelist, and author of ‘The Palm-Wine Drinkard,’ Amos Tutuola, was born. Tutuola’s works featured rich Yoruba folklore written in nonstandard English. 🧵

Anywhere in Accra that I can go to hear jazz or r&b/soul music? I want to be out somewhere but I just can't do afrobeats and amapiano. Not when it's the same 15 songs on rotation. I'm tired.

The Cotton Tree, a historic symbol of Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone, broke at the trunk on Wednesday, 24th May 2023. A heavy storm brought it down. We are in mourning, and i am so sad.
