Every time PC writes "raise questions about how broadly applicable and reliable the proposed approach will be in practice" for a paper, it will without doubt be a high-impact paper. Yolo/Dropout/Knowledge Distillation/PageRank/... It's the inverse-Cramer rule for academia.

@im_mansigupta @danish037 @RayDalio I agree with everything except reduced R&D budget. But holding someone else accountable is ok. My question what should you, Danish or I do in our work/life about it?
English

In Changing World Order, @RayDalio describes consistent preconditions necessary for countries/kingdoms to rise: capable leadership, strong education, strong character, civility…
… all of these are conspicuously missing from India. Never been this dejected about our country’s prospects.

@KunalKSahoo She is 4. In this case my problem was: does a circle have 0 or infinite edges?
English

@deepakns How old is she?
I remember my dad giving me some directions to think of on my own when I used to ask typical questions in my childhood.

AI agents seem to be killing the ability to do cold outreach. Look at it from my perspective — someone who gets dozens of unsolicited invitations/requests in my email from strangers every day. In the past there used to be a sharp distinction between unpersonalized mass emails and those that were meant specifically for me. My spam filter could mostly automate this classification, and it even when it didn't, it would take me only a few seconds to tell if an email was worth reading/responding to. Now the distinction is gone because it is trivial to use AI to send out mass emails that appear deeply knowledgeable about each recipient's work and expertise. I guess we have to go back to the bad old days of needing to be "introduced" to someone before communicating with them.

@miniapeur Oh ACs were anyway amplifying the most negative review OR going with the average score. Was already a threshold based classifier

Some in the community made A* as the JEE/Gaokao for grants/promotions/jobs/opportunities. So it is less about communication of science/engineering and more about signaling the exclusive status. Such systems will be gamed.

First auto paper generation, now auto rebuttals. Is this accelerating research or simply overburdening our academic systems? If AI writes the papers and AI reviews them -- do we believe there will be real scientific progress or just a meaningless loop of content creation? I worry for our future conferences...

India collects 22% of its revenue from Income Tax, another 22% from GST and maybe 20% from Corporate Tax. 30% is borrowed money, to be paid by future tax payers, not current tax payers. #JustSaying
