Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions. But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken

The benefit of Ozempic (semaglutide) for protection from major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) is independent of weight loss magnitude and baseline adiposity, likely related to the GLP-1 anti-inflammatory effect thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Heartbeats & Bank Statements: What we learned from 338 cardiologists We surveyed attending cardiologists worldwide (June–Aug 2024) to take the financial pulse of our field—and how it links to well-being. Five take-home points Pay & time: In the U.S., median income $600–699k; median 60 hrs/week, 5 weeks vacation. Practice variation: Median pay by setting—university $500–599k, private group $700–799k, community hospital $700–799k. Money habits: 91% use tax-advantaged accounts; 59% have an investment advisor; 55% carry own-occupation, specialty-specific disability insurance; 28% own rental real estate. Net worth targets: U.S. median net worth $3–5M; 78% have a retirement target (median ≈ $10M). Burnout links: Longer work hours and past divorce associate with more emotional exhaustion; higher net worth associates with higher life satisfaction and less exhaustion/burnout. 32% would take a 25% pay cut to work 25% less. Why it matters: Financial architecture (hours, contracts, insurance, investing clarity) is tightly intertwined with professional well-being. Transparent compensation, early disability coverage, low-cost diversified investing, and right-sizing work hours may be tangible levers to reduce burnout. hmpgloballearningnetwork.com/site/jic/origi…

The Nobel Prize
The Nobel Prize@NobelPrize·
This year’s chemistry laureate Omar Yaghi was born in Amman, Jordan, in 1965 to parents who were refugees from Palestine. When we spoke to him he shared his story: “I grew up in a very humble home, we were a dozen of us in one room, sharing it with the cattle that we used to raise. I was born in a family of refugees, and my parents could barely read or write. My father finished sixth grade and my mother couldn’t read or write. It’s quite a journey. Science allows you to do it. Science is the greatest equalising force in the world. Smart people, talented people, skilled people exist everywhere. That’s why we really should focus on unleashing their potential through providing them with opportunity.” Today Yaghi shared the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Susumu Kitagawa and Richard Robson for their work developing metal–organic frameworks. In today’s @nytimes, our founder @chefjoseandres reports on what our team is witnessing in Gaza: communities cut off from food, families doing everything they can to hold on. But he also writes about what’s possible. World Central Kitchen aims to prepare one million meals a day in Gaza. That means building five large kitchens in safe zones, places where food can be delivered, cooked, and shared without fear. Because even in the hardest moments, people deserve the dignity of a warm meal. And when access to food is taken away, we believe the world has a responsibility to respond. Excellent study in @JACCJournals focusing on I-124 evuzamitide in patients with "early" transthyretin amyloidosis ( having negative or quivocal bone scintigraphy (PYP)). Excellent performance of evuzamitide in this cohort. jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.… #CardioTwitter

We need better imaging to not only diagnose both TTR and AL Amyloidosis earlier, but also potentially track progression with treatments. I cannot thank @MatMaurer and @AndrewEinstein7 @spencerdguthrie and team enough for their guidance, patience and support. Thanks to @attralus

Ramadan Kareem 🌙 As we embrace this blessed month of fasting, reflection, and prayer, let us remember those who are less fortunate. Ramadan is not only a time for spiritual growth but also for generosity and compassion. May we open our hearts and hands to those in need, sharing our blessings through acts of kindness, charity, and support. May this Ramadan bring peace, unity, and relief to those struggling, and may our efforts lighten the burdens of others. Wishing you and your loved ones a Ramadan filled with love and countless blessings #RamadanMubarak
