The PS, State Department for Children Services (Kenya), held a high level meeting with the Kenya delegation in Lesotho during the session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC). The discussions provided valuable insights into strengthening child rights systems across countries. Key deliberations focused on the need to reinforce national coordination frameworks to ensure that efforts across health, education, social protection, and child protection are well aligned and mutually reinforcing. There was strong emphasis on building strategic and sustainable partnerships among governments, civil society, and regional bodies to accelerate progress for children. A critical takeaway was the importance of identifying and championing priority child rights issues based on country-specific contexts, supported by evidence and responsive programming. This approach is essential in addressing persistent gaps and ensuring that no child is left behind. The meeting also underscored the significance of actively participating in the Day of the African Child (DAC), both technically and financially, as a platform to amplify children’s voices, strengthen advocacy, and mobilize collective action. As stakeholders, we have a shared responsibility to move from commitments to action by strengthening coordination, investing in children, and advancing accountability mechanisms that deliver real impact in the lives of children across Africa. According to a study conducted by @ecdnetwork_ke on ECD Systems (2020-2024), Kenya is established (SABER Worldbank Rubrics) on most focal indicator , reflecting an impoved policy environment , and recent consolidation of responsibilities related to ECD. The Action Foundation was honored to participate in the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Childcare Trainee Resource Development Workshop. The workshop focused on simplifying the Trainee Resource Book and integrating stakeholder feedback to make the content practical, inclusive, and accessible to all learners. Representing us was Albina Khayati, Senior Occupational Therapist, who joined other participants in engaging group discussions on essential caregiving topics, from developmental milestones, health and nutrition, habit training, child play, and grooming to basic homecare and occupational health and safety. The workshop also featured hands-on activities to restructure modules, propose visual aids, and suggest culturally relevant examples that reflect the realities of caregiving in Kenya. At The Action Foundation, we remain steadfast in our mission to embed inclusion in every stage of a child’s growth and development. @covaw, under the #ACTProject, attended the @ecdnetwork_ke side event during #DevolutionConference2025, themed “Advancing Inclusive, Accessible and Quality ECD Services through County-Level Coordination and Investment.” During the panel discussion led by ECD Network, @nurture_first, a key player in the childcare ecosystem, gave a thought-provoking presentation on the state of informal home-based childcare in Murang’a, Mombasa, and Kisumu. One finding from their mapping really stood out, 51% of childcare workers use their own resources to care for children. It’s clear we need better policies, dedicated funding and fair pay so that care workers and the children they look after can thrive. This message echoed wider #DevCon2025 discussions including holding duty bearers accountable at all levels of government, ensuring every county develops and enforces a sexual harassment policy, and prioritising childcare policy reviews that reflect the realities of local communities. These measures are essential if we are to truly value childcare as a vital service. Childcare should never be an afterthought, and childcare work, like any other profession, must be prioritised, recognised, respected, and fairly compensated.
