As the 6th National ECD Stakeholders Conference fast approaches, the ECDNeK team, led by National Coordinator Prof. Teresa Mwoma, held a follow-up courtesy meeting yesterday with Garissa County Secretary Mr. Mohamud Hassan, Garissa County Director of Liaison Ms. Farhiya Ali, and FCDC CEO Dr. Idle Farah to touch base on ongoing conference preparations. The meeting focused on providing updates on the planning process, firming up ground logistics, confirming keynote speakers, and aligning on other key areas of coordination. Both leaders reaffirmed Garissa County’s strong commitment to ensuring the success of the conference, scheduled to take place from 15th to 17th July 2025, at Palm Oasis Hotel in Garissa county.

How do we build a better future for women in childcare? We recognise. We reward. We represent. @covaw recently held strategic inception meetings in Kisumu and Kakamega Counties with the County Gender Sector Working Groups and ECD Network for Kenya (ECDNeK) members to introduce the ACT (Action for Paid Childcare Sector Transformation) Project. We had powerful reflections on the paid childcare work, its impact, and how to transform it from a job of last resort to a vocation of choice. "I could not be where I am today if not for the ECD background I got from my nursery school teacher," one participant shared. From the discussions, participants highlighted several key priorities to improve the sector and uplift women in paid childcare work: Provide mental health and psychosocial support for caregivers Create safe spaces for parents and childcare workers to discuss rights and responsibilities Support women to organize into groups that can access government funding Address the lack of data on daycare centres and women in domestic work Engage men to challenge and transform harmful gender norms in the sector Why does this matter? Because investing in care is investing in futures, equality, and the very backbone of our communities. Childcare work is essential work. Let’s recognize it. Let’s support it.
