How do conditions preferences work in @photofinishgame? a. linearly b. weirdly (check out 0 fast stars performing worst across all types on fast tracks). Also 3 fast stars become a big hinderance on sloppy tracks. Finally yielding is not a mid-point, its a different multi-verse where 0 stars live and thrive (fast and slow don't get say half their usual bonus - stars are bad at yielding).

It has been ages since I had the time/inspiration for a daily dose of .@photofinishgame #horsebusiness ... but today I did a little project for Charlie leading into the VKD and my decision around whether to retire or keep him racing. The million $derby question is how many good breeding matches does he have... so to do that I had to navigate the pool of breedable mares. See below for the results... tldr there are a lot (96 today) and with the next two crops of fillies hitting breeding age, that number will double (193). This work makes me feel comfortable that he will have heavy demand today and that demand will grow quickly. As a 3 / 3 / 1 pref LTS horse, Charlie is setup well to crossbreed archetypes to LD or RT as he has max left and max turn stars. These crosses should give you the chance of breeding tan elusive LTF champion. Alternatively, a non 1-of-1 LTS mare can clearly do better than Charlie. Not only is he the most decorated LT horse, he did it with Pluto as his sire, leaving you with plenty of future breeding options (i.e. Kan Kan). So now the fun part, how big is this universe. To do that I will look at the current female racing population and retired population across LD/RT/LT that are compatible with Charlie. For the cross archetype matches, I will exclude horses with more than 1.5 stars in the wrong direction so LD horses with more than 1.5 dirt stars and RT horses with more than 1.5 right stars. This analysis reveals that there are 5 racing/retired compatible S+ LD mares and 58 retired/racing S grade mares. Similarly, there is one retired S+ RT mare with 1.5 or less direction stars (Breaking Bad’s Kim) and 18 compatible S mares. Lastly, there are 14 LT horses that can breed with Charlie. So overall we have 6 S+ matches and 90 S grade matches. That is 90 matches today, but if we roll forward two breeding seasons to capture the current fillies reaching breeding age, we have 24 additional LT matches, 4 S+ LD matches and 38 S matches, 3 S+ RT matches and 28 S matches. Note for the LD and RT matches, this again excludes horses with more than 1.5 stars in the wrong direction/surface. So to conclude we have 96 high quality matches with Charlie today and over the next two breeding seasons, that number will grow to 193. CMR also has 15 in-house matches, meaning there will likely only be 20-25 external breeds available each season.
