so the tiktok ban is just a huge internet restriction bill? it says using a VPN to access "banned apps" lands you a minimum imprisonment 20 years + a fine of either $250k or $1 mil. the president appoints someone to head a group that monitors anything that access the internet

the "TikTok" ban is a backdoor to basically full government surveillance of any computer "transaction". You do anything the government didn't like on the computer? Bam, 20 years or massive fines.
Greg Price@greg_price11

The bill to ban TikTok is absolutely terrifying. It gives the government the ability to go after anyone they deem as a national security risk at which point they can access everything from their computer to video games to their ring light. This is a Patriot Act for the internet.

DISASTER: President Biden today approved the Willow oil project in Alaska on the largest tract of pristine land in the US. This will create catastrophic pollution for decades just as the planet reaches the tipping point. Willow will have deadly results. theguardian.com/us-news/2023/m…

It's depressing to consider, but I suspect the demise of skiing in the Alps will prove to be far more consequential to the rich world's awareness of climate change than news that one third of Pakistan is underwater.

I've seen enough: Sen. Raphael Warnock (D) defeats Herschel Walker (R) in the #GASEN runoff, giving Democrats a 51-49 majority in the Senate.

He just posted a poll asking whether to reinstate tr*mp and I just want to be clear: if tr*mp comes back on Twitter, this account is going away. I’ve found my community on Mastodon. I’ve put up the archive. I did it all with an eye toward this moment; I’ve prepared as best I can.

I was bitten by the knowledge management bug in 2020 but didn't like any of the apps I tried, including ones I made for myself. I recently tried a new approach: everything's on the filesystem, all relationships are represented with symlinks. It's working really well!

Nobody wants to talk about abortion. I hear this daily. And it’s true. And we shouldn’t have to talk about it - it should be medical care that is available when needed. But it’s not. 1/

The stuff happening on the Stable Diffusion subreddit right now is pretty wild - since the model can be run by anyone on their own machine if they have a decent GPU reddit.com/r/StableDiffus…
