@Protons4B @baldwinbiogas @DrSimEvans Farmers have been storing grass (and maize) for years & years in th form of silage. This is what AD plant do as well so they can produce biomethane 24/7 all year. Silage is a kind of 'long-term biomass battery'.

Fact 1: The IEA, CCC and other expert analysts say heat pumps are the best way to decarbonise home heat Fact 2: Dale has a commercial interest in biogas, which he claims is a viable alternative to heat pumps Fact 3: Biogas is not, in fact, a viable alternative to heat pumps Fact 4: Dale repeats a series of myths about heat pumps that are addressed in this mythbuster by @janrosenow carbonbrief.org/factcheck-18-m…
Dale Vince@DaleVince

The government’s heat pump programme risks tens of millions of people forking out thousands for technology that doesn’t deliver. The case for all homes to have heat pumps does not stack up. Let’s have a proper debate on this informed by the facts. theguardian.com/environment/20…

@EngineerLondon I could do with one of these near Chichester. Any chance you can knock one together by this time next year? 🤣

@ACJSissons In the world of energy, the Feed in Tariff and Renewable Heat Incentive are both index linked. Although these are a 'per kWh' subsidy rather than an up front payment towards the captial cost.

Question: when you have a subsidy for consumers (e.g., for a heat pump), would you ideally uprate it by inflation each year or keep it fixed in nominal terms? Are there any examples of inflation-linked subsidies?

Today’s stormy weather caused by a very steep pressure gradient between a whopping anticyclone sitting in the Atlantic and a deep low pressure system over Scandinavia.

Re-covering an old well this afternoon which is on top of the highest piece of ground for at least a mile in every direction and yet the water level is only 5ft down. I’ve seen this many times but never understood why??

Need some advice. If an energy provider who have been bleeding my business by jacking up prices to 16 p per kWh suddenly wrote to you to say from now on I could have the same energy fixed at 6.5 p - would you sign? Meanwhile here’s some nice sweet peas from our cafe garden

GB : Now both West Burton Coal contingency units have started for the evening. One CCGT unit currently not running is placing themselves in the BM at super high prices for this evening and will be called. This implies that we may see very high imbalance prices this evening ^PH

Excellent news today for anyone interested in SuDS, stormwater management, storm overflows, flood risk, nature, pollution and more. Mandatory SuDS are coming to England! Developers will no longer have an automatic right to connect stormwater to the sewer. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

GB : Auction clears for tomorrow at record prices on EPEX (£674.78/MWh baseload, £2,585.80/MWh for evening peak). N2EX clears high but not a record (£570.60/MWh baseload, £1,585.82/MWh peak) probably due to implicit coupling on NSL. Monday will be interesting ^PH

@JRDSills Plenty of options to sell AD 'bit by it' but unfortunately not wind or PV. Even if you end up fixing at a relative low remind yourself that its way more than you ever expected when you built it.

If you think selling grain is nerve wracking, try selling a year's worth of electricity in one go in a market that more than quintupled in a year and then halved in a few weeks. Squeaky bum time.

@chris_dustow Just remembered this -#other-machines-and-appliances" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">gov.uk/guidance/using… Check out section 2.5. My reading of it is that red diesel used in a generator to store potatoes (an agricultural activity) is still OK. But best if you read and make your own mind up as I haven't checked this with HMRC.

Any storage potato growers looked at going off grid and running stores on generators to avoid this shit show of electric prices? We are going to be looking at going from 2k a month bills inc solar to 8 to 10k that is a lot of red diesel even at £1 a litre that could be bought.
