Energy / Power X: Does anyone have a copy of BEBS S5 (1956) 🤔 “General Specification for Outdoor 275 kilovolt and Lower Voltage Switchgear (1956)” I’ve tried @energynetworks and waiting on the IET. Grid didn’t keep one. Need to try the Scots.. Any PDF gratefully received

In 1968, high schooler Mike Vining heard about the Tet Offensive and enlisted in the US Army with one goal: get to Vietnam. As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist (EOD), he spent two years crawling into enemy tunnels in Vietnam and Cambodia, personally destroying "Rock Island East," one of the largest enemy weapons caches ever found. 327 tons of ammunition rigged with 300 cases of C4, with enemy attacking during the demolition. In 1978, Colonel Charlie Beckwith was building Delta Force. Out of 130 candidates, only 9 passed selection. Vining was one of them, becoming Delta's first ever EOD operator. Over the next 21 years, he barely survived the Desert One helicopter collision during the Iran hostage rescue, assaulted Richmond Hill Prison in Grenada, deployed to Desert Storm, Haiti, and investigated the Khobar Towers bombing. He retired in 1999 as a Sergeant Major after 31 years of service. Legend is an understatement.

The UK government has approved two major offshore wind projects off the east coast of England. RWE and Masdar have secured permits for the 3GW Dogger Bank South development. Meanwhile, SSE and RWE have also received approval for the 1GW North Falls wind farm. Another major step forward for the UK’s clean energy transition. We have now approved enough clean energy projects to power the equivalent of over 18 million homes across the UK. We are driving further and faster for clean homegrown power that we control to protect the British people and bring down bills for good.

@EngineerLondon I always thought the Sellindge - Calais link was the first but no it was this one. The engineering feat was fantastic and every attention to detail. AEI and BICC at our best along with work by EDF and France. Work together! youtube.com/watch?v=BYhphv…

NYP Reporter: Prior to boarding Air Force One to depart Beijing, the entire U.S. delegation disposed of every item provided to them by their Chinese hosts. Gifts, badges, pins, and commemorative items were all dumped into a trash bin on site. The directive was absolute, no item of Chinese origin was permitted to board the aircraft. The precautions extended beyond the departure itself. Delegation members had left all personal electronic devices at home before traveling to China and operated exclusively on clean burner phones throughout the duration of the trip.

As we face a second fossil fuel shock in 5 years the lesson for the UK is clear: we need to get off the fossil fuel rollercoaster with clean, homegrown power we control and electrify our wider economy. The King's speech announced an Energy Independence Bill to drive it forward.

Essential aid delivered from the sky. Members of the Parachute Regiment parachute on to the remote island of Tristan da Cunha. They mark a drop zone then call in an air drop of essential medical supplies from the RAF. 1000s of miles away in the middle of the Atlantic…only they could do it…to the Parachute Regiment we salute you! 🫡🫡

The @DailyMail strikes again with EV sensationalism. Let me tackle the obvious points. The door latch, the dashboard are powered by a 12v battery (yes an EV has two batteries) that performs the same duties if EV or ICE. It’s unlikely that the cause of Mr Biggins issues were specific to the EV powertrain or the traction battery. Where electronic latches are provisioned, there is normally an override in case of airbag deployment and a mechanical override. In the case of the Fiat500 the inside emergency release is low down in the door trim/pocket area. Pull it and the door will open (there’s also an override from the outside) Finally, when a 12v battery is not charging, warnings will have been flashing on the dashboard in both EV or ICE configurations. Always take these seriously as they are not randomly triggered (it’s triggered by a voltage monitor). Automotive Engineers take these scenarios very seriously- we plan countermeasures to all sorts of unlikely occurrences in FTAs and FMEAs. The mechanical override is one of the resultant solutions. The cars operating manual is a wealth of useful information and everyone should read theirs (we spend a lot of man hours writing them!)
