I have a theory about Starmer and rejoining the SM/CU/EU. It's a long game; Starmer does want to do this but ... 1. He knows that fixing the economy (as it is outside the EU), public services and housing will probably take two terms of gov't as well as financial resources and people. 2. Rejoining the SM/CU/EU will take a huge amount of resources, both financial and people, and will take years to accomplish, years that could be spent focusing on fixing the economy, public services and housing 3. The far-right flourishes when the economy and public services are broken. Fixing them will weaken the far-right. 4. He can lay the groundwork for rejoining the SM/CU/EU by achieving cost-neutral wins such as rejoining Erasmus, the European Space Agency, Horizon and COST, as well as ensuring a level playing field in standards and rights, and tweaking the current treaty around food imports/exports. All will help achieve the eventual objective of rejoining. #RejoinEU
