Extraordinary defence here by New Jersey Governor of the $100+ train prices to MetLife stadium first reported by @TheAthleticFC yesterday - she’s pinning it on FIFA and not budging. This is the Governor of the host state of the World Cup final going to war with FIFA.

We inherited an agreement where FIFA is providing $0 for transportation to the World Cup. And while NJ TRANSIT is stuck with a $48 million bill to safely get fans to and from games, FIFA is making $11 billion. I’m not going to stick New Jersey commuters with that tab for years to come. FIFA should pay for the rides. But if they don’t – I’m not going to let New Jersey get taken for one.

It will be interesting to see what this means from a design POV. I can see a world where greater emphasis is placed on what the sponsor artwork looks like and how it integrates into the kit, rather than just a logo slap. With a bit of long term planning, this can then lead to more jersey sales and bridge the money gap. Fingers crossed! theguardian.com/football/2026/…
