@Corballyred Mcallister dreadful, gapko should never have been brought on, isak shouldn't have started ahead of salah. Formation of team and then position of wirtz doesnt help wirtz. So many players look worse under slot and the passing was sloppy so many times all night.

My thoughts on tonight 😡👇 -Team selection was a joke. Salah and Rio Ngumoha had to start. -This has to be Slot’s last European night at Anfield. He’s clearly out of his depth. -Why start Isak if he was fit? He’d have been far better off the bench. -Frimpong is dreadful. Whoever sanctioned £35m for him needs sacking. -Hopefully Slot takes Gakpo with him. He got in the way when he came on. -We only had a go for the first 20 mins of the second half. -Szoboszlai’s attitude was excellent tonight – next Liverpool captain for me. -We need far far more from Wirtz. -One of Gravenberch’s better games this season. -Mamardashvili’s kicking is dreadful. - That looks a terrible injury for Ekitike. - Joao Neves is some player. - On a positive note, it won’t take as much to fix us as you think – just a new manager and a couple of players.

@NUFC_HQ Staveley verbally offers a contract & terms, the new director says you're not getting it, new director then offers Isak a contract when he realises Isak still wants out. The new director fails to sign any top targets or replacements. Isak & the new director have messed this up.

So let me get this straight… - Alexander Isak was promised a new contract last summer by minority owner Amanda Staveley. - Staveley that same summer is forced to sell her stake in NUFC. - Newley appointed Sporting Director Paul Mitchell tells Isak he’s not getting a new contract. - Isak makes no fuss. Makes repeated statements and interviews throughout the 2024/25 season expressing his love for Newcastle, the city and the fans. - Scores 27 goals in all comps. - Proudly celebrates winning the Carabao Cup. - Celebrates helping secure Champions League football for the second time in three seasons. - Pre season starts and Isak joins up with the squad and trains on the Austria tour. - Expresses his delight when the club signed fellow compatriot Anthony Elanga. - Liverpool make informal move for him and Isak then downs tools. - Liverpool at the same time rival and sign Newcastle’s top striker target Hugo Ekitike (Suitable replacement for Isak) - Isak then refuses to join club on Asia tour due to ‘injury’ and has trained alone ever since. - Tells the club he won’t play for them again and releases info to the public via intermediaries. - Reportedly rejects new contract offer from Newcastle. - Makes first public statement after making the PFA team of the year and accuses the club of “broken promises” - Still no official transfer request. Hmmm🤔 All I’m seeing is someone spitting their dummy out. Nothing changes imo. I’m sorry Alex but the issue with ‘informal promises’ is they’re not enforceable. But what is enforceable is his contract up until 2028 with no release clause… The way I see it Liverpool have let him down signing Ekitike. He’s been poorly advised and represented by his agent. Enjoy the sidelines brother 👍🏻 #NUFC #LFC

@henrywinter If that a now-former club official did make a promise, then the line is misleading at best because technically, an “official of the club” at that time did make promises not fulfilled. It looks like trying to reframe a narrative as they have been unable to get players they wanted.

#NUFC issue a word-perfect, measured & fairly gracious response to Isak’s petition to divorce. “This is a proud club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

@henrywinter To be fair not many knew the rule, the officials did, it didn't require measurements he pushed a player out of the way he was that close. Its not that big of a deal. Ref & VAR got this one 100% correct & not even controversial its just because you didn't know rule & dont like it.

“It’s not football any more,” #CPFC fans chant. It risks becoming football by review. It’s football where no defenders complain and a spectacular goal disallowed by somebody in front of a screen with a digital tape measure miles away. Eze free-kick ruled out after review because Guehi “is less than one metre away from the wall as the shot is taken. Therefore, it's an indirect free-kick and a disallowed goal”. Laws are laws, even little-known ones, but this sets a level of intervention that now requires consistent application. Every wall is going to be scrutinised closely for any movement by an attacking player. “I’m a metre!” At least the decision was explained by the ref to the crowd, a welcome development in the PL this season #CHECRY

@henrywinter What a load of waffle to say what we all know Rashford has got talent but there's no work rate to match that talent, at a club in a different league where he doesn't need to track back it might work out. He returns to the prem where he needs a higher work-rate back to same issue.

Marcus Rashford had to leave Manchester United. He also had to leave the country where criticism of his drifting career was becoming so fierce, although social media censure knows no boundaries (in every sense). Another loan but it’s Barcelona, what a club to go to (if/when move confirmed), Spanish champions, Champions League, brimming with talent, great stadium re-opening, and El Clasico v Trent on Oct 26 at the Bernabeu. Barcelona. Mes que un club. And more than a chance for Rashford. Now down to him to show Barcelona he’s worth buying with a season of sustained focus and excellence. Strong competition with Raphinha, outstanding last season. Rashford is lucky to get this incredible opportunity to re-boot his career, to change the negative narrative around him and get to the World Cup, his third. Flick, like Tuchel, clearly rates him. Rashford, like all players, responds most to supportive management and a system that suits his (wide attacking) strengths.  Amorim wanted Rashford out. Fair enough, a good new manager has to get his way. Rashford didn’t suit Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 tactics plus the wages plus questions over his attitude. Had to leave but it’s sad in a way. Home-grown, boyhood supporter (and says he always will be), good record at United, 138 goals in 426 appearances, 15th on club’s all-time scoring list. Plus those 17 goals in 62 internationals.  Rashford needs to enjoy his football again and, tactically, play higher up the pitch. Needs to unleash that pace and trickery again as he did before injury on loan at Villa where Emery was bringing the best out of him (4 goals, 6 assists in 17 games) and fans’ and team-mates’ support clearly reinvigorated him. Now he heads to Barcelona where there is intense scrutiny as well as intense support. Down to Rashford now. Good luck to him. #MUFC #Barca #ENG

@henrywinter United have enough quality and lack of European football to do more this season if not better than people expect, even if they didn't sign another player. They just need the players they have to earn their 200k+ a week wage by running, tracking back and putting a shift in.

Interesting to see how Manchester United line up this season. Mbeumo and Cunha obviously fit the two 10 roles well in Amorim’s beloved 3-4-2-1. Both excellent signings, PL-hardened, bringing goals and assists. But it goes without saying that United’s best player is Bruno Fernandes who’s most effective as a 10; possibly 8 with the right player alongside but he doesn’t have the defensive qualities to play deeper. And where does this leave a No 10 like Mount? On the bench. Just when he’s got fit. United still need a reliable finisher, a more mobile, pacier central midfielder and a more reliable goalkeeper. And, of course, offload United’s Unwanted - Antony, Garnacho, Malacia, Rashford and Sancho. Amorim is a good manager. He showed that at Sporting, albeit in a lesser league and at a club without the intense scrutiny and myriad issues of poor recruitment and ownership problems of United (Glazers out). Amorim can be judged fully at United only when he’s got his players in and cleared out those five in particular he doesn’t want. Glasner made 3-4-2-1 work well at Palace (a club with more intelligent recruitment, Freedman/Parish 👏). It is still disappointing to see United playing without flying wingers. But Amorim deserves some time. #MUFC

My understanding is that Marcus Rashford has not asked to leave Manchester United. But he accepts he’s not part of Ruben Amorim’s plans and that he has to leave to get playing again and fulfil his ambition of going to the 2026 World Cup with England. A move abroad looks the next step. #MUFC #ENG

@henrywinter Honestly, can’t be bothered anymore. The second I see Tuchel squad with Jordan Henderson, Kyle Walker, and surprise, surprise Harry Kane starting every game up front, I know exactly what we’re in for: the same mind-numbing rinse-and-repeat we always get. Absolute garbage.

Lots to like about #ENG line-up. D Henderson chance, Saka return, fearless MLS, Chalobah debut, Colwill chance, Eze 2nd start. But Kyle Walker? V good player for England down the years, and young team needs some experience, but he'll be 36 at World Cup. Trent on bench by Trent.

All this stuff about Trent Alexander-Arnold walking alone, it’s ridiculous. Yes, hell hath no fury like a fan spurned but some perspective is needed. Don’t be angry that Trent leaves, be thankful for the time together, the memories shared, the trophies won, the road traveled together. Madrid. Wembley. All over. Don’t berate a renowned player with such venom that potential recruits are wary of coming to Liverpool. Don’t give rival fans the chance to slate your treatment of a player. However painful, be respectful. Be proud that a local kid your club nurtured has blossomed into one of the best footballers on the planet. Show Liverpool’s best traits. Support. Fans stay, professionals move, it’s nothing new. Trent loves Liverpool personally but professionally he has to make career choices. He’s 26. He’s been offered the opportunity to play for the biggest club in the world in Real Madrid. He’s not joining a domestic rival. He’s going abroad, to an unbelievable stadium, city and club. He’s going to a place as obsessed with the European Cup as Liverpool, perhaps even more so. He’s going to be playing with his mate Jude and with fabulous talent like Mbappe, Vinicius Jr. He’ll probably prefer playing with Vinicius Jr than against him. He’ll be seeing more of the ball and spraying even more of those famous passes around. Especially if Xabi Alonso comes in as coach. Trent has earned this chance. Liverpool fans will be angry, frustrated, feeling let down. But Trent couldn’t have revealed his intentions before. He focused on the 20, on being ready to come on and score a sublime, very difficult and hugely important goal as the strike against Leicester City. He’s been respectful and today’s statement is full of respect. So wish him well, however tough that may be. He’s represented Liverpool well, the Scouser in the team. Now he will be the Scouser in the Real Madrid team. What an advertisement for Liverpool’s academy, for Liverpool as a club developing such gems of players and people. Remember how much he’s done for the community, food-banks, helping out those disadvantaged, giving another chance for those released by academies. He’s got a moral compass. Liverpool’s history is about the celebration of players and also that some leave at their peak. Kevin Keegan did. Like Trent, went to Europe for a new challenge. Kenny Dalglish came in to Liverpool and the good times continued to roll. Promptly scored the winner in the European Cup final. Adios, Trent. Hello, Conor Bradley. No player is bigger than the club. And it’s not like Trent is leaving Liverpool in the lurch. They have a brilliant new manager, have just won the title, have a superb recruitment operation and will doubtless strengthen in the summer.  Trent leaves with a clear conscience and a crammed medal cabinet. Premier League twice, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup. Yes, he goes without Liverpool recouping a fee, and that’s an undeniable frustration. He’s run down his contract. But he never cost them a fee. Yes, he received expert coaching in the academy and been well-paid as a first-teamer. And he’s paid them back with 23 goals and 86 assists in 352 games. His legacy at Liverpool should be lauded. Trent shouldn’t be made to feel he now walks alone. Liverpool are bigger than that. #LFC
