After the phone call with HR, I can officially announce that I will be the new SBTS @kilmercougars for this upcoming year! I am so excited to join the #fcpssbts community and the amazing staff at Kilmer MS.

I feel so privileged to work for Amy Miller @kilmercougars -- she joined us in February 2020 and has led us through the most challenging time with extraordinary leadership and grace.

#LASTWORD. We're tired. We've been working really hard supporting students and teachers. We deserve to read fun summer books that make us happy and hand over summer reading reigns to our incredible local public libraries! #vaslchat

@carolynvibbert I think the public library is a great solution, especially as your service and expertise is valuable and if you aren't being paid, it undermines the work. #vaslchat

A3. In the past I've opened our library doors a few times in the summer but I'm honestly not sure if I want to offer free services for that this year. I may change my mind in a few weeks. #vaslchat

A4: Invite them in before school ends, promote their programming. One year, we had a MS/HS meetup (w/ @GCMLibrary) at the local public library-- not a ton of kids showed up, but we tried! #vaslchat

A3: We tend to promote the public library program. This year, we're having the Youth Services Mgr from the public library come present to kids during Advisory. In the past, we've done BINGO boards, FlipGrids, etc. #vaslchat

A2: We just finished a book experience with @MayonnValchev and her book THE LEOPARD BEHIND THE MOON! Grades 3-5 across the county were invited to participate as a class. @murbanslife, @lmlineweaver and I worked with the author-sooo powerful! fb.watch/cWKtpL1kBt/ #vaslchat

Q2 (cont): This also the first year EVER that the library hasn't been closed for testing (YAY!) -- we used to have to work harder to get books to kids (request forms, lots of announcements on the news show)...but it's more business as usual this year. #vaslchat

A2: I don't have any great ideas -- I think we all fall apart a bit this time of year. I also feel like I'm full of mised messages these days: "get a book so you have one for SOLs" and "return all the books you have checked out for the year!" #vaslchat
