@samsheffer I have a completely unrelated question. Why is The Verge terrible now? Ever since Josh left along with many of the original crew, it’s been an absolute dumpster fire. I mean, it doesn’t even remotely resemble the website it used to be.

@reckless @jlgolson @Bu5yGiraffe @samsheffer This assumes there's absolutely nothing redeeming about MAHA and I just find that hard to believe. Two things can be true at once. At the same time, it's your publication and you can 100% hire who you want and write how you want.

@reckless @samsheffer There's no need to make up narratives. You can take the feedback in stride or don't, it makes no difference to me. I just want tech news, not subconscious influence, please.

@reckless @samsheffer I used to love making going to The Verge part of my day, now I avoid it. The turning point for me was when your author's political views started attempting to sway sentiment of readers.

@DannyCrichton Their data is so inaccurate it’s not even worth discussing. Like 10x wrong for us

No discussion of tech media can get past this basic traffic fact: in the AI world, Google and social no longer refer traffic, which means that the vast majority of readers just never find you in the first place. Analysis: growtika.com/blog/tech-medi…

1. It was also a surprise to our biz side and they’re looking at why it happened 2. I don’t make the ad deals and there’s a firewall between sales and the newsroom so I don’t even know what they’re doing 3. There are ads on our homepage and social feeds, on every article page and in our podcasts and videos. I don’t even really quite understand what the reaction here even is about, our editorial team didn’t make this ad or do a brand deal like every creator and influencer does every day. Help me understand why this feels so different?

Sorry @verge, but don't you have your facts wrong (again) @reckless? Sixth Circuit put an end to Net Neutrality, not @BrendanCarrFCC in cleaning up the federal code. Why didn't your story mention that @freepress and other PI groups failed to seek Supreme Court review of Sixth Circuit's ruling. Wasn't that kind of a big deal to just toss in the towel like that? Also, @JRosenworcel's radical Net Neutrality rules never took effect in 2024 because of judicial stays, both temporary and permanent. So there was never a "victory," just a lot on money burned on a pointless Biden-era vanity project. theverge.com/report/851629/…

I love it when these dorks call us the mainstream media
Alex Witkoff@Alex_Witkoff

This is exactly why people are abandoning mainstream media: cheap insults instead of actual reporting You don’t have to agree with @DavidSacks on everything, but pretending he “sucks” while ignoring his actual track record is unserious. A few reminders: -Co-founded PayPal, one of the most consequential fintech platforms in history. -Built Yammer, sold to Microsoft for $1.2B -Backed Airbnb, SpaceX, Facebook, Uber, OpenAI, and Palantir in their early days -Hosts All-In, one of the most influential political podcasts -Major philanthropist and consistent supporter of free speech and open debate If the media wants to rebuild trust, maybe start by covering people honestly instead of writing headlines like YouTubers chasing clicks

Nilay Patel did a whole one hour interview with Mary Barra and instead of getting some real meat on their autonomy strategy, the best he could do was push the (completely wrong) idea that somehow Tesla doesn't care about safety. Has he ever used FSD? Pretty @reckless

So disappointing to hear dishonesty from Decoder podcast @DecoderPod about a "Trump book ban". Opposing spending tax money so 2nd graders get books on anal sex is not a "book ban". It is hypocritical because @reckless would never publish an episode where someone read pages from those books on his podcast. Is that a book ban too? I understand you have political views, but good faith requires honesty when discussing an opponents position and that was lacking in the otherwise interesting episode on Bookshop.org.

United’s @Starlink-powered Wi-Fi is the end of airplane mode. "The new gate-to-gate experience offers blistering fast Wi-Fi speeds." [Wasn't @verge editor Nilay Patel @reckless decidedly negative on Starlink in 2021 review?] buff.ly/1fUdPjv
