Everyone is talking about the impact of closing the Strait of Hormuz on oil and gas. I haven't seen much discussion of the war's impact on helium. Most people think of helium as being a fun gas you use for children's balloons. But helium is actually one of the most important industrial gases, used in rockets, MRIs, quantum computers, and most importantly, in the production of semiconductors. Qatar produces ~30% of the world's helium as a byproduct of its natural gas wells, and that supply is now cut off from the global market. 🧵

We all knew this was coming… but today I heard about it actually happening. A seed stage company backed by a well known VC openly admitted (in a board deck) that their strategy is to get access to a large incumbent’s software from a customer, clone the entire thing using Claude Code, and offer it at 90% less. Not “build something better.” Just copy it and offer it for less. The VC endorsed this as the GTM strategy. And even wrote back in writing that it was a good idea. Using a customer’s licensed access to reverse engineer a product and clone it is ethically bankrupt. I don’t know how else to put it. It likely violates terms of service. It may violate trade secret law as well (but I’m certainly not a lawyer). And a reputable VC putting this in writing in a board deck is genuinely insane. But it’s going to happen anyway. Everywhere… all the time. I don’t know where this ends, but we all knew this was coming and now it’s here.

After a while coding with AI becomes a whack-a-mole. You ask it to make a change, but while making that change, it makes a few more changes that had nothing to do with the change you asked for. After every big-ish change, I have to re-review a ton of the code I already reviewed because of this behavior. Maybe at some point you just need to completely stop allowing AI to make changes on its own? Unsure how this works at scale though.

This programming style: - Read code in Emacs - Write a `plan.txt` file in Emacs describing what to do (basically like a bug description for jira or bugzilla or whatever) - Open agent and say `execute plan.txt` - Review code in Emacs - Maybe tell the agent to do it differently, maybe not - git commit -m "more shit" - git push

🧐 bug: LLM categorized a referral contact from the client's message as a company name. 🤨 LLM's proposed fix: let's make sure when the word "referral" is there, we do not classify it as a company. I see @claudeai graduated from the school of overfitting. 🤣

I'm sure these are great courses, but I can just ask AI anything, as I am building, directly in the context of my project, what's the value of courses (other than training material for AI)? AI made instruction courses obsolete - at least for me.
