To finish this thread off, let's let one of the all-time greats (who saw a resurgence to his former elite performance level last season at 37), Votto explain why continuing to improve bat speed matters at even the highest level

I'd like to expand on this a little, because it is one of the most polarizing topics on twitter (even giving politics a run for its money)
To me, bat speed always ends up being the lowest hanging fruit in the never-ending cycle of development as hitters progress.

Bat speed by a mile. Bat to ball and swing decision/approach are also vastly important, but if you hit the ball soft then it literally does not matter

Can’t emphasize enough that sports aren’t a race. Yes - all things equal, I’d rather be a prodigy than not. But early bloomer does not equal prodigy. And if this pandemic has reinforced anything for us laymen, it’s that nothing goes up exponentially. Not # of cases & not talent.

It's disappointing to not be following along at ABCA this year but BRR (baseball related revenues) are down significantly this year 😅

Had a parent of a player who is signed up to attend our tryout this weekend call me yesterday. She asked many questions about our program, our coaches, and our processes. She apologized multiple times for the number of questions, but this is what all parents should be doing!!
