@KendallRooneyD1 It's like a flea market there are some good deals amongst a lot of junk.

@MaggieMrowka I am an old friend of your dad's from GA. I know he's so proud for you.

@Jjeanes24 Is it great pitching or are good hitters harder to find?

By the looks of these heat sheets the country’s combined ERA should be substantially lower than last year. #WeCanHope #BringBackPitching

@CoachSwit Mostly the ones that are not good enough
English

@CoachSwit To be honest it should be less. Just go look at college games across the board from JC , NAIA, DII, DIII, even some DI there is a severe lack of quality play and depth.
English

@nickstrong Let me ask you this? What would you do if you were a high school coach and let's say your better players were going to DII Nova? You have to build that brand and to do that you need to beat Keiser, Nova, St Thomas etc in Varsity games. It's just growing pains ole buddy

@cakridge27 @TreadAthletics I have never been a fan of shut downs. Playing catch and long toss should go on year round. Shut down mound work. Think about it this way. If you sit on the couch 4-6 weeks are you prepped to go run a sprint? Muscles need work to gain strength in my opinion

@TreadAthletics I’ve been thinking on this lately. Just curious what you quantify as an “extended” shutdown. Thinking of HS kids who pitch spring HS season then summer and fall w/travel (Jan-Sept/Oct).
English

Off-season shutdown periods for pitchers.🤔
I'm definitely not in the "pitch competitively year-round" camp, but extended shut-downs do NOT play nice with a large % of pitchers' shoulders.
It's not uncommon for guys who finish the season healthy (with zero shoulder pain) to present with biceps tendinitis, capsular issues, and general shoulder discomfort when ramping back up (even with conservative on ramps).
While the exact mechanisms remain unclear (anterior capsular stiffening, etc.), what is clear to me is that going many weeks or multiple months without picking up a ball is often not tolerated well.
A couple of weeks off followed by light backyard catch a few times per week seems to limit this phenomenon in most of the guys I've spoken to or coached.
Shutdowns are an individual and context-specific decision, but keep in mind that a deload, rather than a total shutdown, remains an option.
