15/16U out-of-state tournament this month. Coach told me the plate umpire called balls and strikes from behind the mound while the second umpire worked from the outfield. I’m sure the non-baseball experts will say it’s fine.

How much does the average travel baseball family spend every year? Lessons? Out of town tournaments? Equipment? Showcases? How much in total? Is it worth it? What would you change?

@CoachSwit I watched a man at our tourney today chalk the batters box and the lines, not paint, chalk. He obviously took pride in what he does, it was refreshing to see and I hoped I was not the only one who appreciated it

Tournament directors are charging $1,500–$2,000 per team… yet some fields have mounds and home plates that haven’t been touched all weekend. If you’re charging premium prices, shouldn’t the field be game-ready? Asking for a friend.

@CoachSwit @CJMonroe_10 That’s why the travel baseball is what it is these days, a social event for parents. They create teams so the parents can have a “Good Ole Time” with their buddies.

It amazes me when you pull into a youth travel baseball game and the opposing team’s parents are tailgating or pre-gaming in the parking lot. It’s youth baseball… not a college football Saturday. Nothing surprises me in travel ball anymore.

For those saying, “It’s just tailgating. Relax and have fun.” That’s your opinion. If you’re on an elementary, middle, or high school campus, I’d bet most school districts prohibit alcohol on school property, including the parking lot. But why follow rules right?

@WolfmanPatriot Settle down, no I’m actually a retired real police guy. Don’t think drinking at youth events is acceptable. See ya buddy!

@CoachSwit Coach Swit is always crying. Was it bothering you? Why do you care? Stop your crying softie. These parents spend their weekends traveling around for baseball and want to have a good time. Who are you the fun police? Baby

@CoachSwit @Ecrbaseball Would generally agree, but I coach HS baseball at PACT Charter school and we’re 7-12th grade. Most of those 7th graders don’t have any business swinging a -3 bbcor bat. Their Summer teams don’t make them, but if you’re a 11/12th grader trying to swing a -6 that’s dumb.

High school players… swing your BBCOR -3. Be ready for college. The new bat rule that was just approved is one of the most out-of-touch decisions I’ve seen in a long time. It feels like it was made by people who know nothing about H.S. Baseball.

@CS_Pxp Private schools should have their own division.

According to the Ciac bylaws in their packet it states success in tournament for school of choice. Defined by last 3 years. “If a school has reached the semi-finals in one of those three years that school will be moved up two divisions.” NWC state final app…result moved up.
JohnnyRibbs@JohnnyRibbs

@CS_Pxp Ccouple too many classes here. Did HC move up due to changes to the formula? I saw NWC also jumped 2 classes. Either God is recruiting well or the formula jumped em??

Holy shit. Thank god I’m not pitching in high school anymore. These fucking morons are gonna kill kids. Bumping the weights down to -6 on bats is so incredibly stupid and dangerous. Like what are we even doing.
USA Baseball@USABaseball

@NFHS_Org @USABasePipeline Additionally, USABats at -4, -5 and -6 drop weights will be legal for high school play starting in 2028.

-6 in HS is crazy. It may help some younger players, but at varsity a kid swinging a 34/28 is going to get kids hurt.

No Reason for this but money? Whoever makes these decisions are clueless. High School Baseball to Expand Drop Weight Options Under USA BBCOR and USABat The NFHS Rules Committee votes to allow USA BBCOR (-3) and USABat -4, -5, and -6 for high school play beginning in 2028

High schools allowing -4, -5, -6 bats for HS play starting in 2028 is super soft. I don’t mind it for Modified baseball as a “gap” closer of sorts…otherwise I think it’s going to stunt growth and development, which is the opposite of intent of the move, per NFHS. Kids get away with murder with the bats they swing at 12u and under right now…they learn quick what doesn’t work then you get to HS swinging a drop 3. Giving youth athletes ANOTHER reason to delay weight training and focus on getting stronger is not going to go well IMO.

I keep seeing H.S. pitchers throw 100+ pitches in summer travel ball. Summer should be about development, exposure, and keeping arms healthy—not winning a plastic trophy. We wonder why arm injuries keep rising, especially TJ surgeries.
