This is De Gaulle with his daughter, Anne, who had Down’s syndrome, on a beach in Brittany 1933. He doted on her and she lived with him and his wife all her short life at a time when children with disabilities were regularly institutionalised. She died of pneumonia in 1948 aged only 20. He carried a picture of her with him for the rest of his life. He was buried alongside her. A tale of unconditional, unlimited love.

Doctors are manually operating ventilators in order to keep babies alive in Cuba. The U.S. is laying siege cruelly cut off all fuel, power is out, leaving hospitals without electricity. Dialysis patients, babies in NICU, and others will die. This’s a crime against humanity.

It’s a shame knowing that when our dying system is swept into the dustbin of history the rest of the world will simply be too humane to treat us remotely as badly as we’ve treated Cuba since 1991.
