I’m gonna say it clearer than I did two days ago. Philly cannot hold on to Joel Embiid anymore if they want to compete. Financially, schematically, ideologically, offensively, defensively… If you trade Joel Embiid, You get younger inevitably. You free up $$ for a 2nd unit ($59 million?!?!?!?!) You allow change of speed dynamics in your offense You can stretch the floor easier You avoid distractions You get healthier Find a partner for him, get two FRP’s and a bench guy in return. And move on… Sacramento might trade you #7 immediately in a deal for Joel Embiid. Mavs at #9. Dare I say, the Bulls at 15 (NOT 4) + other comp… Stop hanging on to Embiid. He is the anchor to your advancement

It was easy to see PG’s payday was what ruined the franchise’s chances. But here’s the thing- Now you need a veteran to stay. Embiid is worse for your offense than PG is. So monetarily, something has to change. In terms of how the team plays, Embiid is the option to go. If you want them both gone, enjoy the play in IF YOURE LUCKY. Get rid of Embiid, get draft picks, sign a good center. And plan for 2027-2028 cause EITHER WAY, next year is shot unless you run it back for likely similar results

So continue to attempt to build around deteriorating Embiid? Continue to build around Maxey? (Bradley Beal is a rather poor comp and I’m unsure if you watch basketball now) Or dump them both for 2-3 more years of trying to make something out of nothing? Maxey and VJ is a similar core to ones that works with about 8-11 other teams. And you ain’t winning shit now nor have you with Embiid so I’m confused on the problem solving here…

Second rd ain’t over, but i have a hard time not looking at Philly as a whole right now in depth: This roster looks better in paper than it actually is. Overpaid PG - can shoot as good as ever but can’t create like he used to. Has had great first quarters in all 3 games and cooled off after that in each one too Embiid needs to go- clogs that offense and slows it down, to the point that teams getting out and running generally have a great ease of success against Philly Depth for Philly is an issue, as it was last year. Knicks aren’t doing anything special but not having a worse roster. Philly’s roster Construction is questionable at best. Got three great pieces to build with in Maxey, VJ and Oubre but they force Embiid into that like a cog on a wheel. I have no reason to believe Nick nurse is a bad coach who wouldn’t be able to work with whatever the other side of this transition was, but I’m sure Harris and crew will blame him and axe him for someone else Sometimes, taking a “step back” is necessary to go two steps forward. Philly is the epitome of that right now.

Quietly, underneath the Knicks working well as a team, 3 things are constantly happening, and the first two are being excused by the third (and Knicks fans should be ECSTATIC about it) 1. Defensive pressure is (and will continue to be) ramped up on Jalen Brunson. 2. KAT can’t run point AS MUCH as previously done; foul trouble has also hurt his availability offensively These two points above require more ball movement and unstructured plays for NY But #3 makes it alllll okay 3. Mikal bridges has quietly been the unsung hero, and is shooting 60% in the postseason So Brunson gets his, KAT is not scoring 25 every night but has new playmaking abilities, You have Hart hustling OG contributing on both ends and making the right plays And Mikal, the 5th and arguably the most scrutinized Knick this year, FINALLY hitting his shots. He’s not shying away from the hoop, he’s finding the open spot, and what MATTERS so much if he is working like this with this offense… opponents can’t put the “bad” defender, or “oversized” defender on him. At this level, he presents a mismatch when he’s converting if opponents aren’t careful #nyknicks #knicks #nbaplayoffs
