must say i love the audacity of the catholic church embracing a shotacon mascot as a way to appeal to a modern demographic
CatholicTV@CatholicTV
The Vatican has unveiled the official mascot of the Holy Year 2025: Luce (Italian for Light). Archbishop Fisichella says the mascot was inspired by the Church's desire "to live even within the pop culture so beloved by our youth."

@JennyENicholson Having had bed bugs twice in my home, I completely sympathize, it’s terrifying. People talk up home remedies, but aside from heat treatment (at least 90 minutes in a very hot dryer), the only scientifically proven method is to seal everything in plastic and wait a year
English

@NASCARArafat @JennyENicholson Yeah a freezer doesn’t necessarily kill them. The only sure fire thing is seal the stuff in plastic and wait a full year
English

@JennyENicholson Can't you just seal your things in plastic then freeze them when you're home? 4 days in a very cold freezer should kill 'em.

@mamithewitch @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey I mean I don’t think it’s just a matter of the size of the platforms, it’s also that commission artists are paid for a product, rather than being paid for their time. My perception is that they’re more comparable to artisans than workers, but I could be swayed by evidence
English

@stroosborgler @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey yeah on a second thought maybe the platforms we work on arent big enough to be uberization. its definitely the same type of work but scattered. idk, where would you put us in the class struggle?
English

@mamithewitch @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey Because I’m with you that an Uber driver or delivery person is an employee regardless of whatever legal fictions are put in place
English

@mamithewitch @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey Through what platforms? I’m genuinely open to having my mind changed on this if freelance illustration has been proletarianized and I just didn’t know
English

@mamithewitch @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey The answer is that you kind of don’t, precisely because you’re not wage laborers. Freelance artists couldn’t form a union to protect their interests, it would be a trade group, which would still be difficult because of just how small and disparate freelance artists are
English

@stroosborgler @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey of a typical worker. like, where do we actually fit in this argument considering we're mostly gig workers and gAI affects us drastically?
English

@mamithewitch @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey You don’t have to have someone working under you in order to be petite bourgeois. I don’t intend the term as a moral condemnation or indicator of privilege (for example, I’m an independent writer and I’m on Medicaid), it’s just indicative of a different relation to production
English

@stroosborgler @SandraSim16 @The_TinyDonkey ur technically right in this but i cant help but think the read of artists being "typically petite bourgeois" really doesnt fit the landscape today considering a lot of us r freelancers w no workers under them, work more hours than an employed person and have none of the rights +
English

@wesbraver @Clayyyyyton @The_TinyDonkey The social relations of artisans to the brokers who they sell their products to are different than the social relations of wage workers to the bosses they sell their labor to
English

@Clayyyyyton @The_TinyDonkey @stroosborgler Literally workers in a movment, getting shafted by the owner class. Classes exist only in relation to each other. What are u trying to prove with this distinction?
English

@The_TinyDonkey Outside of Film and TV, the organizing implications of AI art are basically nil, since illustrators, graphic designers, and writers are typically petite bourgeois. gAI has much bigger organizing implications for office workers
English

@The_TinyDonkey People often use “workers” as a plain language substitute for “proletarians”, so I think that’s a pretty natural read for “workers’ movement”. I agree that gAI is generally bad for artists, but when you say “stand in solidarity with them,” what do you mean exactly?
