Ghost Stories baggage aside, the idea of a dub only serving to advertise the work to a greater audience is decades gone. Carl Macek had this mindset with Streamline pictures and it was controversial in the 90s, falling out of favor (and profitability) in the 2000s.

Ghost Stories dub didn't help sell the show. It did poorly but went viral after ADV had closed. The time of thinking a dub simply needs to be an advertisement for the show is passed and in cases like Ghost Stories we need to consider the damage one to the reputation of the work.

No, that’s the job of subtitles. The job of a dub is to sell the given material to a new market by making whatever subjective improvements or changes that market demands, which funi’s DBZ dub succeeded at, spectacularly. Everyone loves the Ghost Stories dub for a reason.
