It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS, indeterminate dendritic cell histiocytosis or other (non-LCH) histiocytic sarcomas cases. I'm trying to understand non-surgical chemo and targeted therapy options, new pathology markers to better diagnose subtypes/treatments, and any data on progression in pediatric patients. Please feel free to share – I’m trying to cast a wide net due to the rarity of this condition and how little is known. People can contact me directly at my first name (as written in my profile) at octant.bio.

🚨New preprint from our lab! We map the RNA interactions in E. coli infected by lambda, revealing an RNA-driven regulatory layer in phage-host dynamics. We find a phage-encoded sRNA hijacking host replication machinery, impacting the phage cycle.#microbiology #phages @MeetingRna

This was a wonderful meeting @SPP2330 again! Great kick-off of our second funding period! Amazing science going on in the phage field and great to see students/postdocs from the first funding period starting their independent labs. @dfg_public, @fz_juelich, @HHU_de

@Bruce_G_Allen MID panel success rate was only 13.3% (8 of 60). I suspect that the 15.3% rate may be bolstered by one year bridge grants.

well, the success rate of the March 2024 CIHR Project Scheme competition was 15.3% ... kinda the opposite of good news.

I am thrilled to start my lab as an assistant professor @biozentrum & @NCCR_AntiResist of @UniBasel_en this fall. I will continue my research interest in bacteria & jumbophage interactions. Equally thrilled to be closer to our families after 10+ years.

This is definitely one of the longest running projects in the lab b/c we were stuck in a trap of thinking about Sie proteins blocking competing phages. But wasn't a satisfying answer to fit the biology we observed - kudos to @vee_coli for persevering and figuring it out!

New prepint alert @themaxwelllab! 📢 📢 📢 Superinfection exclusion (Sie) proteins aren’t just for defence – they also ensure the spread of viral progeny! Prophages that lack Sie proteins devour their young via a process we call the Kronos effect. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
