When Mayor-elect Mamdani takes office, he will control over 6,300 miles of streets throughout the five boroughs. Reducing car dependence is one of the best ways to reduce costs for New Yorkers. Owning a car costs nearly $9,000 annually, while taking transit costs just $1,500.

Brooklyn's Grand Army Plaza is getting a long-overdue redesign to prioritize the needs of pedestrians and cyclists over the cars just passing through.

Prospect Park only became car-free as recently as 2018. Now, everyone can look back and say: Why did we have cars in Prospect Park for so long? In a few years, people will be saying the same thing about Grand Army Plaza.

States around the nation are passing laws to Stop Super Speeders. Maryland passed one just this week! What's taking New York so long? Our state should be leading the way, but instead we're far behind the curve. Albany has the power to save lives — it should use it.

Walking through the park today, you'd never know that it only became permanently car-free in 2018. It seems impossible to imagine this treasured space being filled with vehicles. A few years from now, people will say the same thing about Grand Army Plaza!

Whoa. @NYCMayor is going to make the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket almost an acre bigger (and make buses faster, and halve the number of points of conflict between cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers)
