The First Computer Mouse Cost $16,500?!
#ComputerMouse#April27
While the brilliant engineer Douglas Engelbart invented the first wooden computer mouse in the 1960s, it remained mostly a laboratory experiment. But everything changed on April 27, 1981. The Xerox Corporation officially released the 8010 "Star" Information System. It was the world's very first commercial personal computer to feature a modern graphical user interface, desktop folders, and a two-button mouse! At $16,500, it was insanely expensive and ultimately failed to sell well. However, it laid the exact technological blueprint for modern computing. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates famously saw what Xerox had built and used those exact concepts to launch Apple and Microsoft, eventually putting a mouse on every single desk in the world!
