Opposition party FORD split into two; FORD Kenya led by Jaramogi Odinga and FORD Asili led by Kenneth Matiba. Kibaki, a Kenyatta and Moi project (allegedly) was then used to split the Kikuyu vote and ensured Matiba didn't beat Moi.
