XYO 2.1 – The most exciting release for #XYO yet. Here is why: For many people looking from the outside in on XYO, release 2.1 looks a lot like the 2.0 release. In some ways it is very similar, especially the fact that the JSON based implementation of the protocol is the same in both releases. Some of the React components and other core concepts, such as schemas and payloads, are also very similar. The similarity ends there. The work that has been done on the XYO technology stack of the last year has focused on self-sovereign concepts and techniques. For example, in XYO 2.0, we used JWT tokens for authentication and in XYO 2.1, we have switched to using cryptographic addresses and signatures as the method for security. We also introduced decentralized data bucketing as a replacement to the ‘archive’ constructs that we used in XYO 2.0. Another major change in XYO 2.1 is the addition of The XYO Module Protocol. Using modules that support a simple shared interface allows us to build deployments of Nodes, Sentinels, Archivists, Diviners and Bridges that are highly scalable and customizable, without having to modify the code that goes into the parts of the protocol. Think Legos, Think Blockchain, Think XYO Module Protocol. With the Module Protocol, we prioritize configuration-based development over procedural development, especially for users of the system. My personal favorite feature in XYO 2.1 is the visualization of running nodes. On both the node.xyo.network and explore.xyo.network site, we render the modules that compose the running node using SVG based components. People keep asking me what they can do to help support the development of XYO. We will be opening the waitlist for being an open-source developer, the waitlist for being a XYO Advanced Node host and the waitlist for being a partner developer in the next few weeks. With XYO 2.1, we feel fully ready to have 3rd parties start developing solutions and additions independently. This does not mean that we will not still provide the integration help that have before, it just means that we are ready to open the flood gates.
