I disagree. Networking, college, and city matter. They can help you get your foot in the door. But saying skill is the last filter is just not true. I haven't met a single Codeforces Candidate Master+ who stayed jobless for long. The reality is that many people underestimate how big the skill gap is between engineers. A lot of salary differences come from that gap, not just connections or college tags.
