today I got scammed for the first time I’m sharing this because it’s easy to feel "too smart" to get scammed until it actually happens. 1- How did it happen? A private telegram groups I'm in accepted a bunch of new members and one of the impersonators got in. later they created a private group and impersonated three admins from the original group They then added me there and one of them (the impersonator of the guy I always chat with) asked me to send some SOL because they wanted help market making an upcoming launch. Since I (thought) I know the guy I sent 2 SOL and got immediately banned then it hit me, I didn't check usernames at all and I knew I was scammed. 2- How did I fall into this? looking back at this I can't shake the feeling of how stupid simple it was: - I trusted that the person who added me is actually the guy I know without double checking usernames or even the mutual groups we're in. - I didn't doubt the urgency in their messaging. - I already have my telegram privacy settings for being added to groups to "nobody" but since I lost tg premium, the app automatically changed the settings to "my contacts and premium users" 3- How to avoid this? - always make sure your privacy settings in telegram is set to Nobody, if your friends invite you to a group you still get an invitation link - double check usernames, cause they copy the same pfp, bio and names. - when they ask for money "even if they are your friends" just triple check everything and make sure you're DMing your friend not a scammer It’s a lesson I wish I didn't have to learn, but if this post saves just one person from losing their bags, it's worth posting.
