Yesterday, we surprised our speakers with a visit to the Institute Alpacas! 🦙

We ended the second day of the conference with a relaxed poster session and many fascinating interactions!

After two fantastic talks from alumni of the IMPRS-PBCS, participants could ask their most pressing questions about life after the PhD in a Q&A session with Camilo Aponte-Santamaria, Thomas Lilienkamp, Jana Lasser and George Datseris!

We kicked off our conference yesterday with a wonderful Keynote talk from Ulrike Feudel who introduced us to critical phenomena and their application to environmental science!

How do you communicate your science to a certain (non-scientific) audience? For all registered participants of the TI2024, we offer a workshop where Manuel Maidorn will teach you hands-on how to do exactly that! 😎🧬

ATP synthesis is a complex process, that relies on charge transport in membrane-bound protein complexes. Ville Kaila and his group tackle the problem of long range charge transport with computational approaches to gain a better understanding of the principles at play.

Many measurements in biological physics rely on noisy particle trajectories. Matthias Krüger will explain what we can learn from multi-point correlations of such trajectories. You can come to the talk even if you are not registered! 😉

Adaptation of tissue to its environment is a necessary mechanism of life and, at the same time, an interesting problem in statistical physics. Ana-Sunčana Smith will show us how the combination of biophysics and non-equilibrium statistical physics leads to interesting findings.

Stratocumulus clouds are important for cooling the planet. They unfortunately get broken up into smaller clouds with increasing surface temperature. George Datseris wants to understand when this transition happens and wether it possibly amplifies climate change.

As scientists, we often ask ourselves: "Will my research have an impact on society?" Jana Lasser will teach us in the closing talk that the skills we learn as physicists can be very useful in creating impact in many questions regarding the social sciences.

We have a slight change in program! Unfortunately, Matthias Schmidt had to cancel his talk. At the same time we are happy to have Prof. Matthias Krüger from the University of Göttingen with an exciting talk on "Multi point observables for stochastic trajectories"!

Cells are inherently noisy systems, yet they exhibit highly organized and robust behavior. Matthias Weiss is investigating the relationship between these fluctuations and the fundamental signatures of life. You can eavesdrop on this talk even if you are not registered! 😉

Superresolution Microscopy is a great tool to study dynamical structures in cells that are inaccessible to us otherwise. Jonas Ries will introduce us to some novel superresolution techniques and show the amazing cellular dynamics they studied with them!
