Glad to attend the 2026 Telluride Workshop on Physical Genomics and Transcriptional Engineering and to catch up with old friends and colleagues across the US. I just realized the seven scientists in this dinner photo likely have seven countries of origin, including Pakistan, India, China, America, Jordan, Israel and Italy, now working in UPenn, Yale, Northwestern, Brown, Stanford and UTexas. In a chaotic world, we meet and share our research with a common ideal: for the betterment of humankind. Thank you @TellurideSci for supporting the workshop! Our manuscript on the nanomechanics of the mechanosensitive channel NompC (biorxiv.org/content/10.110…) has been accepted for publication in Science Advances. This was a wonderful collaboration with the groups of Yifan Cheng, Lily Jan, and Yuh-Nung Jan at UCSF.

Importantly, the study identified barriers including "cultural norms discouraging self-promotion, limited access to decision-makers, and unclear pathways to sponsorship." This study helps broaden awareness and deepen understanding of the Asian faculty experience (2/3)

This work revealed that Dr. Chenghui Ge (1891-1970) concealed her gender during the school’s admission process to overcome prevailing gender bias of the time, and was mis-recorded as male — a story resembling that of Hua Mulan, an ancient legendary Chinese folk heroine (2/3)
