🚨The lack of in-person medical appointments before abortions are allowed to take place is a "trafficker's charter", argues Baroness Stroud. Remote consultations leave the door wide open for coercion and abuse to occur.

The Lords voted 185 - 148 in favour of abortion up to birth. Peers also rejected an amendment to reintroduce in-person medical appointments before women can obtain abortion pills by 191 - 119.

This was such an excellent session & a great update @DiabetesUK Your resources for professionals & the public are also impressive & will support parish nurses in their public health role brilliantly. Thank you so much Aoife & Emma 😊

Thank you @DiabetesUK for an excellent webinar on equitable care which will inform parish nursing practice as we work to prevent (T2) diabetes & walk alongside & advocate for people living with diabetes. Our Partnership Events provide vital & accessible CPD for parish nurses.

Oysterplant: very rare across coastal northern Britain and found at only a handful of sites here in Shetland. Always a highlight for our groups in spring and summer and although Gaelic isn't the mother tongue here, we love the Gaelic name - Tiodhlac na mara - 'gift of the sea'.

@kesleeman @AgnesAyton Agreed. Investment in District Nursing is urgently required to facilitate Neighbourhood Health Care, including palliative & end of life care. District Nursing is the bedrock of community healthcare and yet sorely under resourced for years.

Remarkable speech from Pam Duncan-Glancy (Independent): “There will be countless disabled people in our constituencies who haven’t had the choice to have a shower in weeks. People who can’t choose when they go to bed. Some who will already be in bed. “People who can’t choose what to eat. People who can’t choose to go out of their house, because it isn’t accessible. People tonight who can’t choose the care or the healthcare they need, including at the end, because it simply isn’t available for them. “And crucially, there will be disabled people whose struggle is so hard that they’ve given up hope, given up fighting, and will be considering tonight taking their own lives. “I know this, because I have been all of these people I’ve described. They live in fear every single day, worrying about what new limit someone else will put on their lives, and what little power they will have to change it. They live every single day without choice at all… “In a world where so many have little or no choice, we can’t risk making death the only choice they ever have.”

This was a shocking revelation in yesterday’s debate. Once assisted suicide is seen as a form of palliative care, then true palliative care will quickly disappear (too expensive) and the lethal pills will become the normalised (eventually only) option.
Tanni Grey-Thompson@Tanni_GT

One of the things that came up in the debate yesterday was that AS should be considered part of palliative care. If it does then it becomes normalised and it can expand

Lord Stevens, former NHS CEO, always chooses his words with care. So it’s striking to hear him describe Clause 41 of the Leadbeater/Falconer bill as “a Trojan horse clause for fundamental change to the National Health Service by the back door”.
