Building a common future starts with common ground. Without it, AI will replace our humanity. AI is a tool to be used — not a master to be served.

@Patriot5715 @TrueAIHound @ylecun I think in most people's understanding it is more of a species. We already have somewhat-intelligent tools, they probably will get better, but I do not see any possibility for an AGI as an intelligent species, not talking about the science fiction like ASI, which is undefinable.

No AGI for the Frenchman Amazing. AI godfather @ylecun thinks he's smarter than nature. He wants to solve intelligence by creating a new system, but guess what? The new system will still be based on deep learning. Huh? 🤦‍♂️ This begs the question: If it's still based on DL, how is it a new system? Moreover, if solving intelligence is the goal, the fact that DL cannot learn continually in the real world is a fatal flaw. There are several more fatal flaws with DL but this one kills it dead in the stables before it can even join the race. 😬 LeCun knows this, but he won't mention it. Why? Because DL is all that he knows. He swings it like a hammer and everything looks like a nail in his eyes. No AGI for the Frenchman, I'm afraid. 😀
Haider.@slow_developer

Yann LeCun says today's AI systems are very stupid in many ways, and we're fooled by their language skills They don't understand the physical world, lack persistent memory, and can't reason or plan "the next step is a new deep learning system built around those missing abilities"

As far as I can tell, the works of Turing and Gödel are academic curiosities that only a few people care about. Both are given a disproportionate importance to science. I never think about the incompleteness theorem or the Halting problem in my work. Neither did Charles Babbage who invented the general purpose computer long before Gödel and Turing were born. Neither did Isaac Newton, the father or modern physics. Software and hardware engineers never use them in their work. No one really cares.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli PM who is partially responsible as a steward for Holy sites in Christianity, says that Jesus Christ has "no advantage" over Genghis Khan, because "if you are strong enough, ruthless enough, powerful enough, evil will overcome good." The statement is seen as ironic, given Israel's unrestrained civilian attacks in Gaza and Iran. Follow: @AFpost

Not even a single Zionist should dare call a Zionist a “Jew.” Torah Observant Jews do not commit terror. This violence is carried out by Zionist settlers, driven by the Zionist ideology, not by Judaism. Calling it “Jewish” only distorts the truth and wrongly implicates an entire people.

Israeli MK Meirav Cohen delivered a powerful speech in the Knesset on settler terrorism in the West Bank: “This is terror, and it is Jewish terror..... It’s not ‘just a few bad apples.’... The politicians excusing this violence are complicit.”

I am ashamed that our taxpayer dollars are being used to starve children, bomb schools and gun down hungry people, and that I voted for a president that had promised not to start more wars. Political liars should be accountable. I didn't vote for this man in the office, I voted for a lesser evil option that the system was giving me. I could vote for a non-winning candidate or not vote. Either way it would be the same result, one of the binary options, which is a dilemma, not a choice. Our political systems are obsolete and need to be changed.

Well written and an important question. But it stays at the psychological level, how will individuals find meaning when struggle becomes optional? The deeper question is structural. Who owns the machines? Who defines human worth when labor is obsolete? What stops "human dignity" from becoming whatever the people in power say it is? "Chosen struggle" is individual therapy for a civilizational problem. The gym and the difficult instrument won't help when you have no bargaining power, no economic leverage, and your value is measured by an algorithm built on someone else's assumptions. The real question isn't how to preserve meaning. It's what meaning is grounded in. Without a foundation that can't be redefined by power, "chosen struggle" is a luxury permitted by those who control the machines, and revocable by them too.

@XFreeze We need a civilization that stops outsourcing its survival to cosmic real estate, two planets won’t save a species that can’t stabilize one. You could try building a culture resilient enough that its brilliance isn’t one bad century or catastrophe away from extinction.

@elonmusk We do not live in a Democracy if we do not have valid options to choose from and accountability of the candidates for the promises they made during the campaign. We should be voting not for people but for policies. And currently there is no distinction and no accountability.

I understand. If you specialize in neuroscientific research, you still need to formalize the findings — assign numerical values, run algorithms, make the whole machinery work. That is where you hit the limits of formal representation. Turing and Gödel aren't about neuroscience. They're about what happens when you try to encode anything into formal systems — numbers, code, algorithms. Those limits apply to every formalization, no matter what domain it came from. The moment your neuroscience becomes code, it inherits the limits of code. The discovery can be biological. The implementation is formal. And the formal is bounded.

@AIAge_ai @ylecun I research neuroscience and I crack code for my computer experiments. I never think of either Turing or Gödel in my work. I have no idea what your argument is and why I should care about Turing or Gödel. I don't.

@DaveShapi Agree. The gap between processing distinctions and originating them is categorical, not technical. No increase in sophistication crosses it.

Machines will ALWAYS just be tools, no matter how sophisticated they become. They will never have moral agency, personhood, or consciousness in a way that is legally, ethically, or philosophically salient. Agree or disagree?

"Neither Turing nor Gödel is relevant to the AGI problem in my opinion"- why? Those are fundamental limits of formal algorithmic systems and there is no escape. "Nature already proves that intelligence is possible", yes intelligence is possible and it is all around us, AI is a reflection of our intelligence, not a light on its own.

Neither Turing nor Gödel is relevant to the AGI problem in my opinion. Nature already proves that intelligence is possible. The fake-AI community can't solve AGI because they are and have always been clueless. This being said, there are other intelligence researchers in the world. They despise the fake-AI mafia, their lame theories and their lies.

Mark this day as a new birthday of philosophy, because it was dead, and now it is alive again... Philosophy as a discipline has been dead for a long time — instead of searching for truth and absolutes, it became a collection of opinions. Today this changes, and it is important for the AI Age. Because the building we construct can only be as sturdy as the foundation that supports it

All the politicians and managerial class that is cheering and profiting from the wars should be on the frontline. If these wars are that important, why should they give the honor of dying for something meaningful to someone else?
