@AJRAllModCons @mikip555 @unleashing_me MATs need greater financial scrutiny because their scale and ability to be closely controlled/captured by small groups increases risk. See this daily in tip-offs coming in, and wonder why DfE doesn't tighten structural regulation.

This isn’t comparing apples with apples though. Trust CEOs are accounting officers. Many also are school improvement experts, and some in smaller trusts are still providing day to day exec headship as well as wider organisational leadership. That adds a different dimension to VFM

@warwickmansell @mikip555 Worked in both. LA bureaucracy far exceeds that in MATs in my 25 years of headship / LA / Mat leadership. finance scrutiny is now greater in MATs than LA schools. Worst structural policy? Easy! Standalone academies & Foundation schools. Poor local accountability. @unleashing_me

@mikip555 Lack of bureaucracy in the MAT sector vs LAs? I think it's often the opposite. Feds of course possible in the LA sector. Large MATs aren't local.
