Matt Campbell just revealed something about Penn State football that nobody is talking about enough. Morning practices. Here's why it matters. In 2021 Campbell went back to afternoon practices at Iowa State after seeing morning practices work during COVID. His exact words this morning: "We slipped academically and we slipped with our production. It was a major mistake on my end." A Power Four head coach publicly admitting a mistake. That alone tells you who this man is. He went back to morning practices. Here's what happened. Team GPA hit 3.4 in the three fall semesters that followed. Injuries decreased significantly. Players got breakfast before practice. Lunch after. Reconnected with coaches at dinner every night. 480 pounds added across the roster in eight weeks this winter. Campbell credited breakfast and dinner accountability directly. Penn State runs morning practices now. The details of how a program operates day to day matter more than any single recruiting class.
