In his keynote address, Lagos State Governor, Olusola Sanwo-Olu, inspires the audience with the potential of Nigeria's commercial capital. He adds that Lagos matters because the future of the global community is hinged on such cities, though they are plagued by issues of technology, climate change, commerce, migration, innovation, and identity.

@ChrisIsike Without addressing structural issues, mediation efforts, whether domestic or external, risk producing temporary stability rather than sustainable peace. #AfricaWeek

The DRC case offers three critical lessons: 1️⃣ Strengthen the mediation capacity of regional institutions 2️⃣ Address the political economy of conflict in peace processes 3️⃣ Prioritise domestic state-building and renegotiating the social contract. #AfricaWeek

Agency is often constrained by structural realities. Perverse patterns of state formation, fragmented authority, and weak institutional capacity complicate the implementation of peace agreements. In many cases, elite political economies benefit from the continuation of conflict. #AfricaWeek
