@latimeralder @JuliaHB1 More importantly, some of the gas Norway are extracting is OUR GAS (boundary of gas field in both British and Norwegian territory). We are paying Norway to sell us OUR OWN GAS.

What's making Britain's electricity right now? Norwegian gas (48%) We pay Norway nigh on £20,000,000,000 per year to sell us North Sea Gas. Which we've banned ourselves from extracting on 'moral grounds' So we pay Norway to do it instead. They get rich

@murphyhugh04 @RupertLowe10 Retail (~4%, £100bn+) and hospitality (2.8%, £60bn+) contribute little to the economy. 👀👀 A WILD take. Yes, I know to a billionaire like yourself £160bn is pocket change - but to the rest of us? Pretty significant.

@RupertLowe10 I think you need to clarify what you are SMEs, if you mean retail and hospitality then say so, these are low wage employment and on the whole contribute little to the economy and will not be missed. Services and Manufacturing have to be helped instead, these we need

This is important. I have been contacted by a shocking number of small businesses whose business rates bill is set to soar. And I mean soar. It is a destructive, outdated, unfair tax regime, and it’s getting A LOT worse. These revaluations are just brutal. Most politicians don’t understand business rates, and even fewer care to. They talk about ‘growth’ while presiding over a tax system that punishes the very people who keep our economy alive. Scrap the current system. I’d abolish business rates entirely. It’s economically illiterate in today’s age. Replace it with something tethered to reality, turnover. Much smaller levels, but targeted - make it fair with the online giants. It is ridiculously complicated, and small businesses are now figuring out just how much more they’re paying. VAST hikes. 300% rises. Often more. Tens of thousands of pounds to find. This is a nuclear winter for these firms. All on top of the NI changes and the new workers' ‘rights’ bill. Headwinds everywhere… Small firms cannot absorb another shock when the next revaluation hits. I’ve been contacted by firms outlining some of these hikes. I mean it’s just unmanageable. They will go bust. It’s that simple. Those who limp on will have to cut investment, fire staff and increase prices. That drives inflation, and so the doom loop continues. Brilliant. Great work everyone. If the government is serious about growth, it should start by letting small firms keep their own money to invest and hire. A physical shop pays a fortune in rates while an online corporate pays next to nothing. This is economic self-harm. It is destroying our towns... And we’re surprised that so many of our high streets are turning into desolate shitholes? When the cost of doing business on said high street is so astronomical? Is anyone surprised? I’m not. Stop pushing SMEs into insolvency with bureaucratic fantasy-valuations from civil servants who have never even run a paper round. Business rates need a radical overhaul, urgently. I am raising this in Parliament.

EXCLUSIVE   Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves have been accused of misleading the Cabinet by using claims that there was a black hole in the public finances to justify tax rises during the run up to the Budget   One Cabinet minister told The Times: “Why did Keir and Rachel allow the country to believe for so long that we would break our manifesto by putting up income tax by 2p when they would have known that wasn’t true?   'At no point were the Cabinet told about the reality of the OBR forecasts. Had we been told, we might have been in a position to advise against setting hares running on income tax and giving the public the impression we are casual about our manifesto commitments. The handling of this Budget has been a disaster from start to finish'   Another senior minister said: 'The Treasury’s operation is not exactly cutting edge. The argument about living in uncertain times and needing more headroom makes sense but the way she presented it - by saying there’s a big hole we need to fill - is frustrating. We had this hokey cokey about income taxes going up and then not going up'   Another minister said Starmer and Reeves look 'weak and incompetent' in the wake of the budget but described it as 'par for the course'   The chancellor repeatedly highlighted a downgrade in productivity forecasts in a series of Cabinet meetings as she made the case for raising taxes   It included a meeting on November 4 that was held after a Downing Street press conference which she used to heavily signal that she was preparing to break Labour’s manifesto and raise the basic rate of income tax   Reeves told Cabinet that Britain faces challenges' in the form of tariffs, unstable borrowing costs, inflation and long-term productivity'. She said she “had to respond to the World as it is now, not as she might wish it to be'   Ministers emerged from the meeting convinced that the public finances were in such a dire state that a manifesto-breaking increase in the basic rate of income tax was necessary.    In fact the Office for Budget Responsibility had already informed her privately that the downgrade in the public finances had been more than offset by higher than expected tax revenues   It told Reeves on October 31 that she had a £4.2billion surplus, but the information was not shared with the Cabinet or the public. Only she and Starmer were aware of the improvement in the forecasts. They abandoned the plans to increase the basic rate of income tax a week later amid concerns about a political backlash thetimes.com/article/714550…

@trussliz The extreme right wing, with their friends in the media, don’t hate the BBC because it makes errors in its news broadcasting but because it strives to be balanced and broadcast truth. The most respected media outlet in the World will always be hated by those with a warped agenda

I'm glad the US President and the rest of the world are seeing the BBC for what it is. Its failure to tell the truth on everything from transgender ideology to economics to Gaza has done huge damage to politics and government in this country. This should be the end of nationalised broadcasting.

@TalkTV @JuliaHB1 @TiceRichard Why on earth are we relying on more people? Why aren't we following Japan (who have the same issue but are further into it) in developing technology to reduce the need for carers while simultaneously making elderly people's lives better?

We watched the first two episodes of #DaredevilBornAgain and guys..... WE ARE IN FOR A TREAT! The show recaptures what made the original series so special but also takes it in a different direction. The tone and grit is authentic to the original show, and the writing never feels too dissimilar. The action feels sharper and better than the Netflix series.

Hi. If you’re looking, you’re wondering, I’m sure. So this is me sucking in my cheeks. 🤣😂. Yep..my moon face from the steroids is in full effect. My cheeks are about an inch and a quarter thick. I’m like the damn tortoise in this race to recovery, but I’ll get there, I promise. I’m now moving around like a normal person, I just don’t have much energy and my insides definitely aren’t okay yet. I’m still struggle with pain if I move too much. Thank you all for being here for me, I’ll never forget it. A special thanks to the man that’s been taking care of me like a new born baby, @Kinkasso1 you fucking rock!
