@spiccarella I have to say this is basically that writers only shtick with reviews. “This book is bad because it’s actually like this one, which maybe you haven’t read” — even when the author themselves may be very public about that book being inspired stylistically

It’s always important when writing a piece of literary criticism to firmly establish yourself as smarter and better-read than the author whose work you’re criticizing, as well as every person who might be reading the piece
