The Secretary General of the Anglican Communion has shared a message of support ahead of the Installation service for the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally. The message reads: It is a joyful moment to prepare for Archbishop Sarah Mullally’s Installation as the 106th Archbishop of Canterbury. May God sustain and equip her as she serves his Church and prepares to take up her public ministry. The office of the Archbishop of Canterbury carries an important pastoral and collegial ministry within our global Anglican Communion family, working to foster Christian unity and partnership in proclaiming the hope of the Gospel. I am full of joy that so many Primates and representatives of Anglican Communion churches are making the journey to Canterbury to pray and mark this occasion together. We also think of our sisters and brothers who will be praying and supporting from afar. We consider especially those who are living in places of extreme conflict and hardship. We assure you of our prayers at this time. During the Archbishop’s Installation service, worshippers will gather at Canterbury Cathedral. There, set into the floor, at the east end of the nave, is the image of the Compass Rose – a symbol of the life and reach of our Communion. Just as a compass points North, South, East and West, it reminds us that the love of Christ is universal, reaching around the globe and calling all people and every nation. It is a love shared through the mission and service of every Anglican member church around the world. At the heart of the Compass Rose is the verse from John 8:32: ‘The truth shall set you free’. As we welcome the new Archbishop of Canterbury, let us pray that God will grant her courage to lead with truth and wisdom, and assure her of our partnership in the Gospel. Together, in the power of God's Spirit, let us proclaim the Gospel, serve our communities, and build bridges of peace in our world. Anglican churches around the world have been paying tribute to Pope Francis. Read a summary of messages on Anglican News. ⛪️“He invited us all into brave, grace-filled conversations about the pain of war, the struggles of identity, the injustice on those least responsible for climate change, and the deep wounds of abuse. He called us to respond with faith and compassion. That legacy will endure.” – The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. ⛪️“He was a courageous voice in our time; especially on climate justice, care for the poor, and the dignity of every human being.” – The Anglican Church of Kenya. ⛪️“Throughout his life and ministry, he has been a witness for the Gospel and a champion for the poor and marginalized. Especially in this season, I give thanks for his powerful advocacy on behalf of migrants and refugees.” – The Episcopal Church. Read more messages like this at: bit.ly/4iu5L4q

Church leaders from across the Anglican Communion and the Lutheran World Federation gathered in Amman, Jordan, for the first full meeting of the Anglican–Lutheran International Commission on Unity and Mission (ALICUM). With the theme “Our baptismal unity,” the summit deepened relationships, affirmed shared mission, and addressed key theological and pastoral questions shaping Anglican–Lutheran collaboration around the world. Participants renewed their baptismal vows at the River Jordan, shared in worship and pilgrimage, and committed to a variety of projects in theological education, evangelism, public theology, and youth engagement. The gathering also explored new possibilities for full communion across diverse global contexts. Dr Christopher Wells, Director of Unity, Faith and Order at the Anglican Communion Office (ACO) said: “Lutheran and Anglican commitments to bear witness together to the one faith and one Lord serves as a summons for the whole Church to give ourselves over to one another fully. We pray that all the Christian World Communions may catch fire in the power of the Spirit to profess the one faith and to share the Good News more surely with the waiting world.” Read the full story: bit.ly/4j42vh3 Photo credit: The Lutheran World Federation #Anglicans #Lutherans @lutheranworld

Anglicans from around the Communion met in Kuala Lumpur from 6-12 December, for a meeting of the Inter-Anglican Standing Commission on Unity, Faith and Order (IASCUFO). The meeting followed the recent publication of "The Nairobi-Cairo Proposals: Renewing the Instruments of the Anglican Communion". A communiqué summarising the meeting and its hopes reports that the Commission “sensed that the Communion may be moving from a season of raw and antagonistic division to one of reckoning with what will likely be a long process of resolution. We may now be able to face our theological differences and associated fractures more productively, as we seek responsible and creative ways to remain together, albeit to varying degrees.” Read the full story and download the communiqué here: bit.ly/41YZysH
