@lone_rides Why is the Catholic church allowed to remain tax exempt when they have billions and billions of dollars?

The pope isn't political. He just criticizes national sovereignty, wants open borders, advocates taxation on wealth, takes money from governments for immigration services, criticizes national leaders, and meets with Democrat strategists. But he's not political.

I doubt Pope Leo XIV will lose any sleep over this, before he begins his pilgrimage to Africa tomorrow. But the rest of us should. Because it is unhinged, uncharitable and unchristian. Is there no bottom to this moral squalor?

Question for Catholics: Can one be a Catholic and not like the Pope and disagree with his statements and views on religion and or politics? If so, why? If not, why? I have seen tons of Catholics taking both sides on this. I am genuinely curious.

As a Catholic, I find it abhorrent that the President of the United States would publicly attack the Successor of St. Peter. Donald Trump is flailing. His war in Iran has led to the death and injury of American servicemembers and the death of Iranian children. He will attack anyone or anything to try to protect himself, even the Church that millions of Americans find faith and comfort in every day. The American people deserve a president who understands the consequences of his words and takes responsibility for his actions.

😡 Stay in your lane, @POTUS! The Chair of Peter isn’t a cabinet position, and the Pope isn’t a political surrogate. Pope Leo answers to God, not to any administration, party, or movement. His role is to shepherd souls, preach truth, and uphold the dignity of every human person; not to echo talking points from Washington. Attacking Pope Leo because he doesn’t align with your agenda, then implying he wouldn’t have been chosen as Pope if it wasn’t for you? That’s crossing a line. A faithful Church doesn’t bend to political power. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, but the Church belongs to Christ.

@BishopBarron I voted three times for Trump. But I think Catholics should stay home at the midterms. Maybe Dems will take over and impeach and remove this blasphemist president from office. We cannot as Catholics, vote for Democrats. But we can certainly vote by staying at home.

The statements made by President Trump on Truth Social regarding the Pope were entirely inappropriate and disrespectful. They don’t contribute at all to a constructive conversation. It is the Pope’s prerogative to articulate Catholic doctrine and the principles that govern the moral life. In regard to the concrete application of those principles, people of good will can and do disagree. I would warmly recommend that serious Catholics within the Trump administration–Secretary Rubio, Vice President Vance, Ambassador Brian Burch, and others–might meet with Vatican officials so that a real dialogue can take place. This is far preferable to the statements on social media. I am very grateful for the many ways that the Trump administration has reached out to Catholics and other people of faith. It has been a high honor to serve on the Religious Liberty Commission. No President in my lifetime has shown a greater dedication to defending our first liberty. All that said, I think the President owes the Pope an apology.
