If you're actual takeaway is that Trump is going to commit nuclear genocide against the Iranian people, well, you're a moron. You can disagree with the post, in fact the first line and the last line of the post are antithetical towards each other, so that's a valid criticism. But if you genuinely think he has his finger on the nuclear button, that's something else and you might need help. However, if I'm wrong and he decides to wipe out millions of civilians I will happily join you all in escorting him to The Hague.

BREAKING: Trump says a 'whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will'.

@perrymetzger What I’m saying is that whatever amount of work is available (fixed or otherwise), it will be filled by AI. 1000 openings, 1000 ai deployed. 2000 -> 2000. Etc. this is because AI will foreseeable become cheaper and more productive than people.

@AleRC310 That is completely wrong. On every level. You are still assuming that a limited amount of work is available to do, and you are assuming that hiring is based on absolute advantage and not comparative advantage. These are both completely wrong.

In the early 19th century, Barthélemy Thimonnier developed an automatic sewing machine, made eighty of them, and started using them in his own factory making uniforms to the French Army. In 1831, a mob of 150 angry tailors attacked his factory and destroyed the sewing machines. Of course, sewing machines didn't reduce the income of people manufacturing clothing, it increased it by rendering them more productive. It also didn't reduce demand for garment workers — whereas in 1700 the bulk of the population had only the clothing on their back (if that), by 2025 almost all of us have hundreds of pieces of clothing even if we're people of quite modest means. This is because in 1700, it took months to make a single shirt, and in 2025, it takes minutes. Nonetheless, the tailors were convinced that the sewing machines, potential engines of their own enrichment, were dangerous and needed to be destroyed. This helped no one, certainly not the tailors. Nothing is new. We're always told that automation is going to destroy the economy, we always face people willing to use force, whether their own or via the state, trying to stop it. It always turns out that the automation was for the best for everyone, and then, when new automation later appears, we are always told, “no, this time, it's different, unlike last time, the automation is too dangerous, this time, it will destroy everyone's livelihood!”

@perrymetzger The thing is, the minds available to work will be AI minds, as it doesn't sleep and has superhuman capabilities. We will return to a slave economy where the solution to labor is to simply deploy more of it, in the form of AIs, who will always outcompete real people on cost.

@AleRC310 And so what? Demand for labor is not finite. The amount of jobs is not limited by some fixed pool of work available, but rather, the amount of work that can be done is limited by the number of hands and minds available.

@AcademicAgent_X I hate the slop eating populist rightoid but i'm not remotely left wing, not even centrist. I consider myself solidly right wing, just not part of the Right(tm) wing slop sphere.

@romanhelmetguy Germany (and western Europe in general) does not believe in war anymore. They're not going to spontaneously invade Poland. Russia, meanwhile, cannot take Ukraine (like... Ukraine.. come on...); any claim that they'll "storm" through Europe is delusional.

Do Euros understand that they only get along because we hugged them tight and made them kiss? If America withdraws from Europe, Germany and Russia will be partitioning Poland within a decade, Greece and Turkey will race for nukes, and the Balkans will spontaneously combust.

@AcademicAgent_X i support jailing Trump, but the thing is, this project will likely also involve "Operation Open the Floodgates", meaning TRULY open borders, Court packing, national ban on voter ID, etc. Trump will be gone (good) but so will the country, which will slowly turn into South Africa

Everybody is already blaming the USA for the Strait of Hormuz being closed. Therefore, I propose that we mine the strait just for fun. It wouldn’t change anyone’s opinion of us, we don’t need the oil, Iran would immediately beg to open the strait, and it would be very funny.

@avidseries Though there is a difference between pursuing a program in general and the "Iran will have a weapon TOMORROW pls USA help!", every year for 25 years as Yahu does. There's only so many times you can cry wolf before you obfuscate what's really happening with their program.

"There's no evidence of Iran seeking a nuclear weapon" (1) Iran is enriching uranium to 60% purity, which far exceeds what’s required for civilian nuclear power (which is around 5%) or even research reactors (around 20%). (2) Iranian documents stolen by Israel (a theft acknowledged by Iran) show the existence of a nuclear weapons program, including work on nuclear warhead designs and delivery systems. (3) The IAEA reported in 2012 that it had “credible information" about Iran’s nuclear weapons research programs, and this included projects involving detonators and warhead designs. (4) Iran is developing long-range ballistic missiles capable of reaching targets up to 3,000 km away, including parts of Europe. These systems make little sense in a conventional scenario. (5) The IAEA has on several occasions declared Iran in non-compliance with its disclosure obligations, citing secrecy and lack of cooperation.

Trump is quite clearly suffering from “mad king” style megalomania in a way that is genuinely scary. Even more scary is that no one has enacted the 25th amendment yet. Dark chapter in US history.

Across different countries the world over, more educated people tend to be more culturally American. Educated people and Americans have similar views on sexuality, group membership, politics, social relations, finance, and the law. Neat!

@cremieuxrecueil why do we pay attention to prediction markets still? popular opinion has no relevance if the predictions are made without insider information.

It's ridiculous that NASA is launching a mission around the Moon this week that will send humans farther into space than ever before and it's getting almost no attention. A landmark moment in the history of our species. History books will care about this moment even if you don't.

@AcademicAgent_X This hope rests on the Democrats having put the woke away and heading towards remigration, but, respectfully, i believe this to be fatally incorrect and they will import so many people as to turn the country into South Africa. I pray that i'm wrong and you're right again!
