Hello world! I am a midlife #CareerChanger, transitioning to the world of #cloud compute from a non-tech background while working full-time. I'm @awscloud certified (Solutions Architect Associate). Currently learning #Python and @CompTIA Network+ to solidify fundamentals.

@loujaybee Yes! I see this all the time when working with customers in a retail setting where we strive for the best customer service. Knowing where the customer is coming from is a big piece of the puzzle.

Something that changed my perspective: When I learned that human behavior isn't consistent, e.g. given X a person doesn't always behave the same. Behavior depends on context.
Lou@loujaybee

@DeveloperXM @Lethain Exposure to the customer context is really a super power.

@forrestbrazeal Don't know what happened, but like so many others, I hope things improve from whatever bad state they're in.

@GergelyOrosz I have your book (thanks @loujaybee!) and it's fantastic. This is also good advice, some of which I hadn't heard before. Thanks!

It's especially important that people just entering tech understand the above dynamic. If you only apply for "great" job ads with salaries, full-remote etc, you are in for huge competition, including from more experienced people. Advice for this group from blog.pragmaticengineer.com/advice-for-tec…

I tell companies wanting to hire: post your (high) salary range upfront, allow remote, have a great culture & you get LOTS of applications. I tell people wanted to get hired: if you only apply to the above positions: expect *massive* competition & might not even hear back.

At Buffer we offer 4-day work weeks. We're 100% distributed, profitable, sustainable and we pay SF market rates. Two weeks we opened a role for a Growth PM and we got 4,121 applicants (!!!!!) Say it with me: people want to work. Just pay them well and treat them right.

Since not everyone has an FPV drone flight telemetry log file handy, it was important to create a demo mode in my Skyboy app so anyone could see how it visualizes data. This turned out to be a little challenging. Read about it: dev.to/alexeversmeyer… #streamlit #python #aws

@openupthecloud Well, it was this plus the Gitpod/JetBrains integration. Good stuff to me, at least! :P

@AlexEversmeyer Thanks, Alex! Define "good stuff", like project ideas? Seems it's a big topic that everyone is stuck on / asking about nowadays 😆

Had a fun chat with a fellow CRC'er today about working on a cloud resume challenge using more "traditional architecture" (VPC's, EC2's). If there's anyone out there who wants to give it a test run, feel free to join me! 👇

@loujaybee @gitpod Lou, this looks awesome! I'm a big fan of PyCharm... I'm going to have to try it out on Gitpod for sure.

So, the cat is finally out of the bag! 😀 Whilst at @gitpod we've been busy developing. I've been mulling over remote development, the future, and what this JetBrains partnership potentially means... blog.jetbrains.com/blog/2022/04/2…

The infrastructure for my Skyboy app presented me with several challenges: modular Terraform, multi-account environments, and branch-based deployment workflows. How I overcame them: lnkd.in/eEaue2gv #terraform #github #aws

I put together a GitHub Actions workflow to build a container image and push it to Amazon ECR. This was the first phase of automating my side project. I wrote a little about the development and learning it took to make it work. dev.to/alexeversmeyer…
