This is exactly why movements like StopKillingGames took off. When anything and everything is digitized, unless you have offline services, companies will do this . They can't sell you new things if your old thing works as intended. So the only choice is to brick your device.

This whole Pokemon GBA on eShop thing has shown something to me that I hadn't even considered.
I don't think people even PLAY videogames anymore. I think they buy a handheld, boot up a game, take a photo (usually of the main menu, start screen, or really early in the game) to post it online and then lap up the online engagement more than they actually play the fucking games they take photos of their consoles running.
