Exactly 5 years after launching our union at JFK8, ALU-IBT Local 1 is in DC urging House members to sign the discharge petition for the Faster Labor Contracts Act, a bill requiring employers to bargain within 10 days of workers winning their union. Amazon, we’re coming for you.

So many of you in the comments are missing the point. This isn’t about what any of us would do in an emergency or if workers would follow the policy. The question is: WHY DOES THIS AMAZON POLICY EXIST AT ALL? Ask the bigger systemic questions!!

@ImNoBetterThanU We agree with you. But the question is WHY is this a policy at Amazon? WHY should we get in trouble at our jobs for helping coworkers having medical emergencies? WHAT is Amazon covering up? We’re demanding accountability and answers.

@amazonlabor True compassion means defying harmful orders. No one was holding these employees at gun point. Critique policies too, but personal ethics matter most. Do the right thing.

Amazon spent over $26 million on union busting last year. They see workers as disposable, and spend big money so they can treat them that way.

A man lay dying, a CPR trained coworker asked their manager if he could help administer CPR and the manager said, “It has to be management or safety team. Please get back to work. Just turn around and not look. Let’s get back to work.” What the fuck is wrong with these people?

This is a huge win for @Teamsters and for workers everywhere but it never should have taken this long. These workers voted to unionize in 2022 and Amazon used every tool at its disposal to delay the collective bargaining process. This is exactly why we must pass my Faster Labor Contracts Act and speed up first contracts for new unions.

Amazon is using subcontractors to hire and manage delivery drivers without officially employing those workers, all to skirt liability for damages or injuries. The Delivery Protection Act, proposed in New York City, would force Amazon to take responsibility for these workers.

AMAZON TEAMSTERS BECOME FIRST UNION TO WIN BARGAINING ORDER AGAINST E-COMMERCE GIANT In a historic decision, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) has ruled that Amazon illegally refused to recognize the Staten Island-based Amazon Labor Union-International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 1 (ALU-IBT 1) and ordered it to begin negotiations with the Teamsters. Over 5,000 warehouse workers at the JFK8 facility in Staten Island formed their union on April 1, 2022. In June 2024, they officially affiliated with the Teamsters Union, which officially chartered ALU-IBT Local 1. Over the past four years, NLRB has repeatedly found that Amazon has illegally and willfully ignored the union’s legitimacy while attempting to coerce JFK8 Teamsters into ending their organizing efforts. "Four years ago, Amazon workers at JFK8 won an NLRB election. Now, on this monumental anniversary, they have become the first group ever to force the company to recognize their union, and they did so as Teamsters,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “This fight is far from over but this ruling from the NLRB is an historic victory for Amazon Teamsters nationwide and a testament to worker power.”

Four years ago today, Amazon workers made history at JFK8. We proved that even one of the most powerful corporations in the world can be challenged by workers standing together. Today, the NLRB has once again affirmed that Amazon must recognize our union and negotiate.

“For [Amazon] to basically admit fault, come to a settlement, and not use their normal tactics shows that they knew they had no chance to win.” Another WIN for the Amazon Teamsters! We have the right to withhold our labor AND we also have a right to NOT be retaliated against by our employer for doing so. Amazon had ILLEGALLY retaliated against strikers during the historic strike in December 2024 by STEALING our hard earned UPT. This agreement stops the threat of losing those hours and potentially losing our jobs for exercising our legal rights. Amazon knew they were wrong and come to the table to fix it.
