Italian unions just won the first-ever workers’ rights agreement with Amazon. The deal expands parental leave rights and protects workers from being disciplined by the company based on video surveillance footage. Amazon has 19,000 workers in Italy.

The number of Amazon workers on Medicaid and SNAP has tripled since 2020. And gig work corporations have shot to the top of the list of companies where workers need government aid. Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, Grubhub and Instacart — these companies combined now have more workers on SNAP and Medicaid than Amazon, Walmart, or McDonald's. Amazon acts like it’s above the law, but workers will continue to exercise our rights and organize for safer working conditions. Workers with disabilities are often among the most vulnerable to workplace injuries and they are leading the fight for a safer workplace for everyone.

For @amazon, Prime Day is a celebration of record-breaking sales and profits. For workers inside Amazon warehouses, it means longer hours, increased pressure, exhausting productivity demands, and a heightened risk of injury.

Especially good news since Prime Week coincides with the hottest days of summer, which can be a deadly combination for workers.

This morning I joined @NYCMayor as he signed an executive order to protect workers from the summer's extreme heat. Workers are the backbone of our city and their protection cannot depend on the forecast. It must be built into public policy. Now, we're doing just that.
