@NormanLeedsPhD A five year 'experiment' is about to come to an end so permanent change is needed. Not currently obligatory for all clergy to offer the liturgy but those who don't must put the couple in touch with the diocesan, who then arranges for blessing to take place.

I feel really sorry for the Bible Society here, knowing they too were surprised by the result & repeatedly sought to check the polling & engage with people’s questions. As a Christian I also think of Jesus celebrating ‘the one’ as much as the 99 and this quote

@AnglicanFutures The fault line in the Communion has been there since the openly gay Gene Robinson was consecrated in 2003. Conservatives in the Communion are generally more exercised about same sex relationships than women bishops (which are a feature of Anglican life right across the world).

@KingCrawa No one is denying that references are made to the numbers - but as I have said it is not the central issue. Neither you nor I have the latest figures on exactly how many people worship in each and everyone of the hundreds of thousands of anglican churches around the world... 1/2

For all the pomp and ceremony it is hard to hide the fact that the Primates of 12 out of the 42 provinces have refused to attend.

@KingCrawa Central to their authority to act is their interpretation of the bible - not numbers. AF has pointed out how 'democratic' processes don't work when tiny provinces/dioceses have the same voting power as huge ones. Neither AF nor gafcon have ever claimed numbers were central.

@AnglicanFutures Numbers and the accuracy of numbers is important when it is the central basis of GAFCONs authority to act.

@KingCrawa I didn't imply anything but feel free to ask the AC to do the research. Personally I think arguing over numbers is a red herring. Does it matter whether the leaders of 80%, 55%, or 30% of the AC believe the CofE to be in error? The question is surely whether they are right.

@AnglicanFutures The implication being that TEC as a progressive denomination would wish to spin the facts the other way. Why not simply ask the Anglican Communion office to undertake it?
