@jesseraub @SproBeforeBros You got there in the same way I was talking about. Ignore context, ignore nuance, pick simple explanation that feeds simple narrative. Remember that among your dozens-to-hundreds, I have thousands and near twenty years. Please trust I’ve no cause to mislead on this.

@SproBeforeBros @jesseraub Combined, guy had immediate feedback the the coffee was likely the problem - hardly the systemic consumer-wide misconception that’s nigh on getting Conspiracy Logic at the top.

@SproBeforeBros @jesseraub Context omitted: they’re talking about a 12 person office, an ancient machine they don’t service, and the guy was issued a budget ‘for a new coffeemaker’. Feels like a very cheap dig to pull that specific quote like a ‘gotcha’.

@jesseraub No that’s pretty much what I was talking about. Big Hardware is not stealing customers from roasters.

@jesseraub I feel like the market segment buying an upmarket machine to improve bottom-shelf grocery coffee is an absolutely tiny demographic though. Most people making a purchase like that are doing so aware of nicer coffee but thinking it’s not ‘worth it’ until their setup is perfect.

@jesseraub I think Specialty’s budgets issue is that gap can’t close. The price consumers want to pay is so low it requires labour & land costs that don’t exist here, and won’t without mega-consolidation and compromise on principles.

@AndersenAngus Ive always had good fortune with the rock strike method, but if there weren’t sparky rocks there - rubbing sticks is pretty reliable and I’d have nothing but time.

Specialty still doesn’t understand y’all can’t convince customers to ask you to charge more for less with “education”. Prices need to go up. You won’t convince customers to like that. Just do the brave thing and move forward.

@erikaishii @graceinthewash @EmeraldBroam Heya, coffee people here. Civet coffee is overwhelmingly a cruel and exploitative field, despite those businesses knowing that tourists would be less keen if they knew that. It’s effectively always a safe assumption that civet coffee is mistreating the animals.

@graceinthewash @EmeraldBroam Thank you for sharing my Instagram story, Grace! I should have posted it as a second tweet so it’s a fair question. OP, I’m curious why you’d ask in such a hostile way, automatically assuming the locals would mistreat the animals?

With the most recent ESL tweet it's also been revealed that casters will not be on-site for Atlanta. This is honestly a really depressing trend for me and probably many other commentators, as this isn't restricted to just SC2. It was done with CSGO Challenger at Valencia

How you trying to advocate your cause when you’re blind unaware who’s in the room and what the culture is? When you assume everyone is lesser than yourself? How does anyone think that’s a starting point likely to win converts?

It remains endless annoying that coffee activists overwhelmingly assume they hold a moral high ground on anyone they don’t like. Like, I moderate a specialty coffee community - and “probably” buy commodity coffee from factory farms with slavery conditions? Fuck off.

Legit appalled that @bcgeu left the table for this offer. Dropped #COLA and the base offer doesn’t offset. Did negotiate just enough sweetener that there’s risk it goes through anyway. #bcpoli

@coffeexkae @SproBeforeBros Can I get in on this tipline too? Every Banh recipe I’ve tried has turned out dreadful.

working with a recipe for banh mi baguettes* and it requires a 20 minute bulk rise followed by a 2 hour final rise and I feel like I'm losing my mind.

@feranch @kbozaaa Just wait for that juicy referral program; once they start talking about self-empowerment, entrepreneurship, and becoming your true Farm Boss self, we’re all hosed.

Wow new Q Cert setup is legit some microtransaction-fuelled nonsense. Seems like we’re mere inches from getting charged £20 a pop just for them to confirm your cert status with them, or £50 in admin fees just to update an address.

@kbozaaa I’m not an expert; my read is that the £339 is mandatory each year for calibration and the £130 practice kit is nearly manditory unless you’re pre-calibrated. The £1520 is the deluxe version and not necessary. I assume it includes flavours not on the test?

@AnomanderCoffee Wait what. THAT’S what we’re expected to cover EVERY year, ASIDE from calibrations?! A huge part of me is hoping I’m not reading correctly.

@kbozaaa Individual flavours are £65 for five doses, the “all” pack will run you £1,520, again, five doses of each. Each dose is a single-use capsule, they’re advertised as storing well - but my understanding is studying for a calibration, you do it more than once.

@kbozaaa “Lots”. Study kit is £130 for 5 doses each of approx 12 flavours, the Calibration kit is £339 each time, and will cover 20 people but only at the same time and that’s wasted if you don’t have 20 people.
