Y2 have really embraced mental health week. They have looked at ways we can keep our minds healthy, such as healthy eating, exercise, talking and taking time for yourself. They have danced, coloured, meditated and looked at self affirmation. #childrensmentalhealthweek

We love welcoming our families into school to share their children’s learning. This week our Nursery children invited their families for a teddy bear’s picnic linked to their learning about Goldilocks. They were great at showing the grown ups everything they have been learning!

We love a challenge! In science Y4 were challenged to use their knowledge about electricity to create a circuit to light a bulb. They had to select the correct equipment and work as a team to assemble it correctly. There were definitely a few ‘light bulb’ moments in this lesson!

At Asquith, all our children access expert coaching in their PE lessons. We use outside providers who deliver high quality lessons to support our children to excel in a range of sports. Here Y4 are developing their skills of balance and jumping led by our gymnastics coach.

Our Y2 children have been learning how to keep themselves safe by taking part in pedestrian training today. They practised how to cross the road safely and learnt how important it is to wear our seatbelts and sit in our cars seats.

What a wonderful time we had at the panto in Bradford today! It was magical seeing all the children’s faces enjoying the show. Did we have fun? Oh yes we did! @BradfordTheatre

During our lunchtime Reading for Pleasure session today, the Reading Leaders hosted a Christmas story time for some of the younger children. It was a lovely way to make everyone feel festive! 🎄📚🎄📚

This afternoon our choir performed a Christmas concert for the residents of Springfield House Retirement Home. They sang brilliantly and spent time talking to the residents afterwards. Well done to all the children involved for spreading some Christmas cheer to our community!

Champions!! Our fantastic team of Y6's competed against other Morley schools in the annual dodgeball tournament and finished top of the league! They then went on to play the winners of Middleton/Beeston schools and came joint 1st! We are so proud of their efforts! #AsquithSpirit

During Anti-Bullying Week, we set the children a 'Kindness Challenge'. Staff have been looking out for acts of kindness and today we celebrated our 'Kindness Heros' in assembly. We are so proud of the way these children display kindness and friendship to their peers. #BeKind

Our School Council attended the Morley Youth Summit. They took part in activities about democracy, met the Mayor of Morley and the Lord Mayor of Leeds and toured the Town Hall and Council Chambers. We are so proud of the way they represented Asquith at such an important event!

Our school remembrance wreath, ready to be laid at Morley cenotaph by members of our School Council this morning. It would be lovely to see lots of the Asquith community there if you can make it. The parade sets off from the Town Hall at 10:30am.

Last week Y4 enjoyed an Art focus day exploring the work of the abstract artist Jackson Pollock. They experimented with a range of different painting techniques to create different effects and textures.

We've had a very productive evening at Book Club! Some of the Reading Leaders spent time updating and creating book displays in the Key Stage 2 building, while the others did some thinking about their reader identities and began some work based on these! Great work everyone!

Y2 have been developing their enquiry skills using artefacts linked to the Great Fire of London. They worked together to infer what the objects might be using their historical knowledge to help them. They loved trying on the fireman’s hat- it was very heavy and much too big!

Y2 combined Science and creativity on their recent Science focus day. As part of their work on materials, they designed and made hats. They then conducted an experiment to see if each hat was waterproof and which hat would be best at keeping your head warm!

A key element of our PSHE curriculum is teaching children how to keep themselves and others safe. Last week our Y6 children were visited by nurses from Leeds Teaching hospitals to learn emergency first aid skills. We may have some future paramedics, nurses and doctors at Asquith!
